School's out for the summer, and if Rockstar Games gets its way, it could be forever when it comes to the Bully franchise. The action-adventure title is an often forgotten addition to the Rockstar library thanks to the likes of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption taking over. Taking us back to Bullworth, and Unreal Engine 5 Bully remake shows us what we're missing out on.
Much like Manhunt, Bully has been lost to the ages. We'll get onto why a sequel and remake haven't materialised later, but for the time being, you can check out what a new-gen remake would look like. Although Rockstar seems to be treading carefully since the GTA Trilogy bombed, one fan's Unreal Engine 5 Bully remake should have the developer throwing all its cash at the idea.
What Is The Unreal Engine 5 Bully Remake?
On YouTube, TeaserPlay has become our go-to for Unreal Engine 5 imaginings of what your Rockstar favourites could look like. We've previously shown off an impressive Red Dead Revolver remake and a proper new-gen version of GTA III, but now, it's time to stay behind after class for more Bully.
Showing what Unreal Engine 5 can really do, we get a souped-up look at Bullworth's grounds, Jimmy Hopkins in his uniform, and the sneering Dr. Crabblesnitch. Explaining the build, TeaserPlay says, "In this video, we are going to imagine a Bully remake - a great nostalgic game that we need now in next-gen graphics. We tried to use all the power and features of Unreal Engine 5 to recreate this, such as Lumen, Nanite, Ray Tracing and Metahuman to create Jimmy Hopkins and Dr Crabblesnitch's Face."
Given the retro love for Bully, it's no surprise gamers are over the moon with the Unreal Engine 5 Bully remake. Even if it's only a bit of fun from TeaserPlay and will never actually be released as a playable build. One fan wrote, "Not all heroes wear capes, but modders sure do!! Fantastic work," while another added, "Don't expect anything this good from Rockstar." A third gushed, "The way I see it, Rockstar should hire such talented creators. Great job mate!!"
Is A Bully Remake On The Way?
By now, we're sure you'll have heard all about what is (or isn't) going on with Bully. May 2021 saw the renewal of the Bully trademark, which led many to hopefully believe a sequel could be in the works. This was then followed by a sea of whispers about a new-gen remake of the OG as well as the mythical Bully 2. The Game Awards came and went, with insiders saying a Bully 2 announcement was pulled at the last minute.
Others claim Bully 2 was made and scrapped, meaning Tom Henderson was called out for hyping something that never came to be. Back in February, Henderson said there was still news on the way, but here we are. If you're asking why Bully has been bullied into oblivion, it probably links to other whispers that new-gen GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption remakes have been axed because of the GTA Trilogy. With Jimmy being held back, it looks like we'll have to live vicariously through TeaserPlay.
