VALORANT fans demand anti-troll solution from Riot

Fans are begging VALORANT for some kind of respite when it comes to annoying teammates begging for skins, suggesting a 'hide skin' feature.

It seems like trolling in games is only getting worse by the moment. While it's a shame that the internet continues to churn out such hate, it's hard to be surprised, as even Battlefield 2042 streamers are coming up on a year of relentless in-game harassment.

Although you might think that deeply tactical games like VALORANT might be safe, players have no such luck. In many cases, in-game toxicity is even worse when a rank is at stake. Now, fans are asking Riot Games to consider features to help to curb bullying.

VALORANT fans beg for skin changes to avoid bullying

A new thread on Reddit has highlighted players' hopes that a new feature could soon be added that helps to keep games running smoothly in spite of players harassing their teammates so that they'll drop their flashy weapons.

The thread, posted by user Hyrul, posits that a 'hide weapon skin' feature could be useful for players who have to deal with teammates who body block and constantly bump into their team.

We need a "Hide my skins from others" option badly.

"So many times do people follow me around just for my skins," they say. "People just want the championship Vandal. Not peaking and running straight for a skin. Body blocking me until I drop it."

For those unfamiliar, you can drop skins in VALORANT, which makes sporting those rarities a bit of a danger. Taking trolling to the next level, some are known for their aggressive tactics of backing you into a corner and harassing you into dropping your skins.

"Probably never going to happen, and for just this reason alone," responds a comment in the thread. "When you have a skin you're basically a walking advertisement for Riot. Players seeing your skin or playing with it will incentivise them to buy skins of their own, meaning more money for Riot."

"People who choose not to buy skins but ask strangers to drop them skins should learn to realise that asking does not mean you are entitled to a Yes," says another. "I always drop ppl who ask, but not to ppl who are rude to others and even me… like you wanna trash talk me and then later ask for my skin? Nah."

It's a shame that players have to deal with this, but sadder still, it's probably in Riot Games' best interests to let this keep happening. Despite claims it stops some splashing out on rare skins, we doubt it's really impacting the shop. After all, the house always wins.
