VALORANT's biggest difference from Counter-Strike is that realism is thrown out of the window in favour of a deeper mythological lore based around Radianite and the in-game Agents.
Whereas Counter-Strike is strictly CTs against Ts in a realism-encapsulating invasion, VALORANT has deep-rooted backgrounds for each and every character and location. This allows fans to build relationships with the Agents and form bonds with their instalock.
However, this has thrown up a few crinkles, as VALORANT fans are now convinced that using Brimstone on Pearl breaks the game's canon.
VALORANT fans think Brimstone breaks canon when used on Pearl
The map Pearl takes place on is an underground metropolis, loosely based on the city of Lisbon, but with an Atlantis feel to it. Located beneath the seas in a Simpson's-esque dome, Pearl is a one-of-a-kind, and differs from the other planets that play host to the Search and Destroy game.
But Brimstone's abilities originate from the sky, and now, fans feel like this breaks the lore - given that he can use his airstrikes on a map that has no sky.
"His smokes come from the sky. His ult is a laser from an orbital satellite. Pearl is in a dome underwater. Every time Brim uses his abilities it must be cracking the dome which will flood the city Pearl is set in and drown everyone," one fan said on a popular Reddit thread.
VALORANT fans want Brimstone banned on Pearl
"Brimstone shouldn't be playable on Pearl," said the Redditor. In Riot's Pearl announcement, the dome is composed of radianite-infused polycarbonate, which is intended to be impenetrable by bullets. Still, it's unclear as to whether lasers could pass through it - and the water it lives underneath - leaving fans to believe this one is a stretch too far.
Others also joked that Harbour should face a similar fate as he floods the map, which is structurally designed to keep water out. Of course, realism isn't VALORANT's strong suit, and it's likely that no Agents will be restricted from the game on certain maps.
It does beg the question of if Riot can continue to untangle its webbed lore with more maps and Agents in the future.
