The VALORANT Champions Tour 2023 season is edging towards an absolute belter of a climax, with the world's greatest teams from across the globe all jetting off to Tokyo for the penultimate event of the year.

Masters Tokyo is nearly upon us, but after a gruelling journey through the franchised leagues and Playoff qualification, the adaption to this League of Legends-esque format has really taken a toll on its players.

Now, some of the best players in the world that are jetting off to Tokyo have spoken out and asked Riot to change their stance on the format for next season.

FNS and Boaster demand VCT format change

Having both just qualified for Masters Tokyo in their respective teams, the former VCT major winners duo of Jake "Boaster" Howlett (Fnatic) and Pujan "FNS" Mehta (NRG) have now both claimed that the format needs changing after forcing teams into a slaughterhouse at Playoffs.

"This format took everything out of us. We played one match a week for nine weeks, then played five matches, two of which were Bo5s in ONE WEEK. Now we have Tokyo, then Champs a month later..." FNS said on Twitter.

He pointed out that the teams then have a five-month break after Champs, meaning that there is ample opportunity to spread out the format throughout the year and give players more time to prepare and rest.

Boaster also echoed FNS' statement, adding, "This season was so tough and we weren't even losing! I'd love to have a break mid-season or something. It was non-stop."

Fnatic only lost once in their entire EMEA regional split, which was the Grand Final bout against Team Liquid, showing that even the most in-form team in the world are struggling.

Stretching Playoffs over a series of weekends could be a viable option too, if a mid-season recuperation break isn't to Riot's liking.

Whether this is at the top of Riot's checklist right now is yet to be seen, as they continue to battle with the LCSPA amid player walkouts and strikes.
