Fans are truly itching to see what the next era of Counter-Strike has in store for them, and with no release date, it feels as though they have nowhere to put their excitement.

The sequel has been a long time coming, and fans are hoping that this new era of the game will lead to better on-going support for the franchise than its successor got - but to be fair, it's probably best if we actually get our hands on the game before we start speculating about its post-launch life.

Without a release date, though, we're in the dark - but it looks like Valve is teasing that we might not be so lost for much longer.

Valve hints that Counter-Strike 2 release date is coming soon

Well, hello.

In a pretty interesting turn, it looks as though we could be finding out about the release date of Counter-Strike 2, as teased by Valve themselves.

After revealing in a post about Steam's anniversary that the game will be coming "soon", the official Counter-Strike Twitter account has let slip a charming tease to get players excited.

"What are you doing next Wednesday?" asks the official account. Interesting.

There's no telling what lies in store for us next Wednesday, but fans have a pretty hopeful expectation of what's going to happen. And truly, it wouldn't come as a shock.

Is Counter-Strike 2 launching next Wednesday?

Many feel that Wednesday could end up being the date for a surprise drop thanks to this tweet, and frankly, they could be onto something. There's a chance that we'll get a release date trailer for later on in the year, but also, an entire week is a long time to hype players up for a mere trailer.

Maybe Steam has something to tell us, or maybe they're swinging open the gates of the game early - we're just going to have to wait to see what happens. We'll definitely take a full launch, though, just to be clear.
