The Spider-Verse is expanding as Insomniac Games continues to weave its own web of intrigue. Following the success of 2018's Spider-Man, 2020's Miles Morales, and 2023's Spider-Man 2, we always knew this wasn't the end, but as for what comes next, we don't know. Oh, apart from all those leaks.

Insomniac is busy beavering away on its Wolverine game, and beyond that, a devastating roadmap of leaks has pencilled in everything from a Venom spin-off to Spider-Man 3, an online element for Wolverine, and a full-blown X-Men game. Now, someone in the know has given at least one of these the nod.

Tony Todd teases not-so-secret Spider-Man game

It was big news when Insomniac confirmed that the legendary Tony Todd would be voicing Venom in Spider-Man 2. Known for his horror credentials in the likes of Candyman, The Crow, and the Final Destination movies, Todd's signature vocals were just what we needed for the sinister symbiote. Now, it seems he's not done with the role.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Todd wished Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal a happy birthday. Here, Todd said, "2 major projects down & counting," suggesting that he's already wrapped a return as Venom. What's interesting here is the mention of "& counting," does this mean a third is in the works?

Either way, it seems at least one of these is the leaked Venom spin-off. Like Miles Morales was more than a DLC but not quite a full-blown epic on the scale of the first Spider-Man, we imagine a Venom game would flesh out the story of the symbiotes...but in what form?

It's easy to bring back Venom

Still, the end of Spider-Man 2 suggests Venom is done for. Having been separated from Harry Osborn thanks to Peter wearing his Anti-Venom suit, it looked like the symbiote was destroyed. As Spider-Man hinted at Cletus Kasady/Carnage via "The Flame" side mission, it's clear at least some form of symbiote survived.

Beyond this, 2018's Spider-Man included a collectable farewell card from when he left the Daily Bugle. One of those who signed it was Eddie Brock - arguably the most famous host of the Venom symbiote. While it would be great to explore the outer-space nature of Venom's origin, it's more likely a spin-off would move forward.

Either way, with Todd being a typically terrifying part of Spider-Man as the man behind Venom, we're more than happy for him to return in whatever way. We know Insomniac is busy on Wolverine, but after the leaks potentially spoiled the surprise of a Venom standalone, we'd go ahead and just make it official.
