Over the years, some of the cheats in Call of Duty: Warzone have gotten highly elaborate, with invisibility, invincibility, flying boats, and even map-long bayonets slashing people to oblivion all being implemented at some stage of the game.
But, with Actvision's Ricochet anti-cheat beginning to falter ahead of Season 2, cheaters are going old school.
Gone are the methods of mad destruction in Warzone, and instead, one of mass destruction is being deployed. Hackers have now pulled out the oldest trick in the book and developed lagswitches that affect the entire lobby.
Lagswitches Are Back In Call of Duty
Alongside JTags, lagswitches are the original form of hacking in Call of Duty, making entire lobbies begin to experience large lag spikes once it's been activated.
The system used to be common in multiplayer, especially on competitive game modes like Ranked or Gamebattles, but hasn't really been used since the developers combated nearly a decade ago. Until now.
New lagswitch technology is now being deployed by hackers in Warzone 2, and it's making every player in the lobby become almost incapacitated, allowing the hackers to farm easy kills and destroy all enemies.
Why Are Lagswitches So Bad For Warzone 2?
Even though lagswitching is nothing new to the Call of Duty franchise, the effects it can have on battle royales have been huge.
As seen over on TikTok, the hack simply makes players lag beyond control, and when you've spent 15 minutes looting just for this to occur and a hacker wipes you out in one gunfight, it appears infuriating.
The beauty behind the hacks is that, with Warzone 2's already unstable servers, lag spikes aren't uncommon, meaning they fit right in like a camouflaged ghillie.
Being able to cause lag - or kicking players out of the game entirely in the most severe cases - lets hackers ruin hundreds of gamers' experiences in one simple flick of the switch.
Activision once found fixes for these old-school hacks, and it surely won't be long before Ricochet decides to take action and prank these cheaters, but until Season 2 rolls around, Warzone 2 is almost unplayable.
