Season 5 of Warzone 2 is well underway, and the community is diving into all of the fresh content that arrived with the major update.
As always, one of the most significant aspects of the patch was the Battle Pass. It's given players the chance to earn a variety of rewards, including the new FR Advancer AR and Carrack .300 sniper.
Unfortunately, earning Battle Tokens takes a long time, meaning a lot of fans don't have the time to play countless hours to unlock all of the rewards quickly.
As a result, lobbies are being plagued with AFK Warzone 2 players who are farming Battle Tokens by endlessly queueing for matches.
AFK players are plaguing Warzone 2 lobbies
Taking to the CODWarzone subreddit, user SwiftHadoken showcased the number of players AFKing in Warzone 2 matches in Season 5.
After dropping into Vondel Trios with their squad, SwiftHadoken waited for the game to automatically kick them out of the plane. As you would expect, this is the default landing position for all the AFK competitors in a match.
Shockingly, in SwiftHadoken's case, nearly half the lobby was sitting there AFK and was just waiting to be killed. This allowed them to rack up countless kills in an instant, gunning all of the enemies down with no return fire.
As the game never kicks you for being AFK, a lot of players are simply continuously queueing up for matches to passively earn Battle Tokens. While this works, it does affect the balance of matches, as so many competitors are effectively not taking part.
Warzone 2 players 'support' AFK farming Battle Tokens
Although you would probably expect the Warzone 2 community to be slamming these AFK players, that's certainly not the case. The majority of users in the thread acknowledge how long it takes to earn Battle Tokens and actually "support" the behaviour.
"IW makes the battlepass so slow that you literally have to spend hours a night on it to complete, it's unrealistic, I fully support this," argued one user, with another claiming, "Not everyone can play 8+ hours a day with a full time job and kids to take care of, It’s impossible."
Despite this, there's no denying that the AFK strategy is ruining the pace of Battle Royale matches for players who want to compete. However, the best solution for the devs may be just to make Battle Tokens easier to acquire, as it's clear the community is tired of the grind.
