It's no Verdansk, but is Urzikstan really as bad as we think? The poor map is definitely a step up from the likes of Caldera, yet even the developers have left it out in the cold, neglected, and unfed.
The large-scale battle royale map has hosted Warzone players for a year, but aside from one small update that drilled a hold in one POI, the map has scarcely been touched. This is unlike Verdansk, which had game-changing map updates almost monthly.
The map isn't even being supported with any new content, whereas Resurgence maps like Rebirth Island and Vondel are preparing for the Halloween season in style. With Season 6 waving goodbye to Modern Warfare 3, some are also worried it could be the end of 'classic' Warzone.
Warzone Season 6 sees Urzikstan get completely ignored
Modern Warfare 3 Season 6 marks the last of the major updates for Sledgehammer Games' title, and while a lot of focus stays with the multiplayer side of things, Warzone does get some updates, too.
Namely, the Hellspawn and Vondel Night reskins of the Resurgence maps are arriving alongside two LTMs in Purgatory and Zombie Royale. But as the game's core map, Urzikstan gets nothing. Nada. Zilch.
In fact, the map hasn't even been named once in Activision's blog. The only small update it will get is over in Zombies as free Rift Runs and double Schematic recovery come to the undead game mode. Even Ranked play stays on Rebirth Island, never having touched Urzikstan after once only being available on Al Mazrah.
Of course, fans have expressed their displeasure. One concerned gamer wrote, "I can't believe how badly they dropped the ball with Urzikstan, because Warzone right now is really REALLY GOOD," while another added, "They gave Urzikstan one season of attention the entire year thats good enough back to rebirth island baby!"
A third chimed in, "Wow, can’t believe they just completely gave up on the big map! It’s sad really," and a fourth concluded, "Jesus, I hope all the suffering trough mw3 cycle is worth it for bo6 integration (on warzone part)." For now, Urzikstan will remain a barren wasteland where our dreams go to die.
Maybe there is a method to the madness, though. Stripping Warzone down to its bare bones, keeping the large-scale area on life support, and pumping blood into Resurgence might just be the diversion Activision wants for Verdansk's re-emergence to really land.
It's unfortunate for those who do love a sunny trip to the Urzikstan countryside, but it really does look like the map is over and done with as Verdansk waits on the sidelines, ready to make a bigger splash in the still waters.
