For the longest time during the Al Mazrah era of Warzone, leaks indicated that the next map was set to be Las Almas.

The Mexican region was due to feature a colourful jungle landscape broken up by urban settlements and points of interest. Given it even got a mention in the MW2 mission El Sin Nombre, there was a lot of excitement to finally explore the location.

In the end, the new map ended up being Urzikstan, a place that seems to have taken direct inspiration from Verdansk but definitely isn't the bright and vibrant landscape players were expecting.

Now that a set of Las Almas concept art has been leaked, Warzone fans have slammed the devs for axing the map and can't believe it was replaced by "awful" Urzikstan.

Warzone fans disappointed the devs cancelled the Las Almas map

As showcased by the popular Call of Duty account TheGhostOfHope and originally posted by Name_Iees, a set of Las Almas concept art has been revealed.

This has sparked a discussion within the Warzone community, with players claiming they feel "genuinely robbed" after getting Urzikstan instead. For them, not releasing Las Almas was a "missed opportunity" and it's "sad" the location never got a chance in the spotlight.

"So funny that Las Almas was meant for MW2 then pushed back in favour of a dull looking map, then Las Almas was meant for MW3 then cut in favour of a dull looking map," said one user, with another arguing, "I hate how much cod content actually gets scrapped, there are so many good ideas and concepts that just get left in the dust and it's sad."

It seems the community's main problem with Urzikstan is how bland the map is when it comes to the colour palette. However, this was similar for Verdansk, which is heralded as the best Warzone location of all time.

Will Las Almas be recycled as a future Warzone map?

While Las Almas may have been scrapped for now, it is possible the devs revive the concept for a future Warzone Season. However, there have been no leaks that suggest this will be the case.

In fact, reports indicate Verdansk may make a comeback before Las Almas manages to grab a spot in the Battle Royale rotation. Either way, it's always interesting to check out maps that could have made it into the game, even if it does leave a bitter taste, knowing it may never see the light of day.
