After years of having the same maps over and over again, never being pushed out of your comfort zone as you drop into the same landing point each time, Warzone is making you mix life up a little bit.
A string of resurgence maps have now been added to Warzone, with Ashika Island being joined by Vondel as high-octane small-team-based battlegrounds.
With more maps on the horizon though, the fear was that the developers would replace these pre-existing landscapes with fresh ones, leaving us without the maps we've come to love. But this won't be the case.
Call of Duty reveals Warzone map rotation process
Much like in multiplayer, Call of Duty has now revealed that there will be a map rotation system that will come into place for Warzone as of Season 4 Reloaded.
The system will see all current and future resurgence maps be piled into the same playlist where they will rotate with different squad sizes for a set amount of time, akin to that in Apex Legends.
"After a certain amount of time specified in-game, the Rotating Resurgence Playlists will shift from Vondel to Ashika Island and vice versa for a given squad size," reads the Call of Duty blog.
"The best Resurgence squads should prove their mettle by winning back-to-back matches in Vondel and Ashika Island, and the truly elite can go on winning streaks for hours while (virtually) jet-setting between those two locales."
Warzone fans undecided by resurgence map rotation
While this will be great for future Warzone endeavours, allowing the Resurgence playlist to remain populated rather than being diluted across multiple maps, some fans felt aggrieved that they will have to play maps that they don't necessarily enjoy.
"So now instead of playing the best map they’ve made we get stuck occasionally on Ashika," said one fan, who would rather be on Vondel.
Another backed the change though, saying, "I like Ashika so I think this is fine. I don't even play br anymore. And don't get me wrong Vondel is a favourite of mine. I just prefer Ashika cuz I got two seasons to learn it
This could open up the doors to having Rebirth Island back in rotation without eclipsing the original maps though, which has whet the appetites of other fans. The same could be said for Al Mazrah and future/past battle royale maps too...
