While Treyarch's plans for Black Ops 6 appear to be a perfect storm four years in the making, with Multiplayer and Zombies looking to be the most promising that Call of Duty has ever been, its fate for Warzone isn't currently matching this level of hype.
The rumoured return of Verdansk has already been delayed, leaving the unfavourable Urzikstan to reign supreme, and the developers look to be favouring Resurgence again with a new map.
But, as omnimovement and everything else that Black Ops 6 boasts gear up to be integrated into Warzone, Treyarch is reportedly preparing for an OG throwback run by scrapping the current backpack system entirely.
Warzone leaks claim a backpack backtrack is imminent
According to the renowned leaker "BobNetworkUK", Warzone is planning to scrap the backpack system that is currently deployed (since Al Mazrah) in favour of the OG loot options.
The current system allows for self-revives and killstreaks to be stacked alongside multiple bounds of chosen ammunition and armour plates. Originally, players were only allowed up to five plated and 160 rounds of ammo, one killstreak, and self-revive, leaving their choice of arsenal quite limited.
For the most part, this could be seen as a good move, removing the chance to keep coming back from the dead with flares and gulag kits, although the fun variety that you gain from having 14 Semtex grenades in your pockets might suffer.
Warzone under fire for playing the Uno Reverse card again
This would mark another system that has been added to Warzone and failed since the game moved away from Verdansk, and players are beginning to grow tired of the backtracking. ">step one - release 2.0 >step two - backpedal it to 1.0," mocked content creator Nick "ProReborn".
Other fans actually defended the backpack system, despite its flaws, and claimed that it could have just been tinkered with to avoid game-breaking metas.
"The backpack we have now is one of the best features of Warzone 2. Way more variety in turns of gameplay choices and play styles," added another fan.
Hardly any "new" systems deployed throughout Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2's era have been able to become mainstays, with MW3 and Black Ops 6 being the Uno reverse card to Infinity Ward's work, and Warzone continues to roll back the years.
