We've heard it all now. Getting gunned in a 1v1 is quite the embarrassment, but coming up with outrageous excuses is a step too far, and "skill-based damage" is the newest bonkers justification ripped out of the excuse book.
Yet, here we are. Over one month into Warzone 2's lifetime and players are convinced that skill-based damage is a thing, and now they are blaming their lost gunfights on it.
Warzone 2 Players Convinced That Skill-Based Damage Is Real
Nobody likes losing a gunfight. You could have poured half an hour into Warzone without finding another soul, just for the first person you see to send you packing to the Gulag. But that's not the game's fault, you've just been beat, I'm afraid.
But skill-based damage is now the new excuse, and the theory is that there is an in-game algorithm, working in the same way that SBMM does, where players with a higher K/D on the day will require more damage to kill an enemy than those at lower K/Ds.
A recent viral video blames the "feature" for losing a gunfight in Warzone 2, stating that you "gotta love skill-based damage." We won't talk about the three hit-markers though...
Does Skill-Based Damage Exist?
Here's a spanner in the works though. Activision does have a patent for this feature. The patent contains the software to effectively level out the playing field for Call of Duty gamers by changing how much damage a player can deal to another player of a different skill level.
However, this is also the same software that allows Veteran and Recruit bots to have their skill gap, and it doesn't necessarily mention that this patent relates to multiplayer or online games.
Despite this patent, you should probably focus on hitting your shots before this excuse is used again. Maybe it does exist in Warzone 2, or maybe it doesn't, but we need some more compelling evidence next time.
