Call of Duty fans are grumpy, even at Christmas, as Warzone's nature as a platform has led to some disappointment with the battle royale's loot pool.
In short, they're upset that there are too many weapons, and they might have a point. After all, Warzone now factors in weapons from multiple games, and many players want Modern Warfare 2 guns gone.
Warzone fans beg for Modern Warfare 2 guns to be removed
It's not just weapons that have carried across, of course - skins and weapon blueprints move across through the 'Carry Forward' program, but while finding a meta has been difficult, Reddit user Henry_Sabondo is particularly concerned about the quality of the ground loot in Warzone.
The post, embedded above, says Modern Warfare 2 weapons are "dog crap" compared to their MW3 counterparts in terms of TTK, recoil, and mobility, but because Warzone loot is pulled from Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, it's tough to work out whether you'll find what you need in the game.
Other commenters have begged for a return to simpler times, too. "MW19 WZ [Modern Warfare 2019 Warzone] with only one set of guns just felt right compared to 2-4 games sets of guns," one commenter added, feeling nostalgic for Verdansk.
While many agree, some are less keen on thinning out the battle royale loot pool, with one saying they're keeping Modern Warfare 3 weapons in their loadout drop. "Disagree, I'm running all new guns in loadouts but hold on to MW2 floor loot guns because I get kills with them," they said.
Another mentioned what's likely the big reason for keeping Modern Warfare 2 weapons in rotation - microtransactions. "Not that easy, many will complain because they bought skins for those guns," they commented, while others feel it's a way to nudge players to pick up Modern Warfare 3.
Is Warzone experiencing 'power creep'?
With a constant push to reinvent the meta with every patch, and new weapons being added each season as well as a colossal influx of weapons with new game launches, Warzone devs certainly have their work cut out for them keeping Urzikstan as a level-playing field.
It's something called 'Power Creep', where the game constantly makes players more and more powerful, making it tricky not to get left behind.
We've seen similarly in games like Destiny, where Bungie tried to 'sunset' weapons but found players too attached to them. That led to them walking back the decision, but not until a few months of weapons were accrued with a low ceiling that made them useless.
It's a tough line to walk, so it'll be interesting to see if and how the Warzone team responds.
