When Black Ops Cold War integrated with Warzone, players began seeing this as the beginning of the end. It was a strange combination of past and present that didn't sit well with the community.

Treyarch is back though, and after a lot of hype surrounding its multiplayer and Zombies content, Warzone's previous and grievous mistakes with the Black Ops transition appear to be a lesson learned.

With Black Ops 6 on the way, Treyarch has now lifted the lid on its new Warzone map Area 99, which will be the team's first battle royale map since Blackout.

Treyarch debuts new Warzone map Area 99

A small still image of the map has been made public with a full reveal being penned in for the CoD: Next showcase.

Area 99 has long been rumoured to be a Resurgence map, rather than a full battle royale landscape, meaning that we will likely get more months of Urzikstan.

Verdansk is pencilled in to be the Black Ops 6 battle royale map, but reports suggest Raven Software - the studio recreating it - is "behind on deadlines" and a delay until at least Season 2 is on the cards.

The newly revealed Area 99 is set to launch with Black Ops 6 Season 1.

Treyarch's new Warzone map sports old Nuketown assets

From the initial still image, it looks like Area 99 will pay homage to Treyarch's signature series, as players have already spotted assets that look extremely familiar.

The red truck at the bottom of the image appears to be akin to the moving truck from Nuketown, given the open rear and side doors that old Black Ops fans will be familiar with shooting between.

As for the rest of the map, it appears to be very Rebirth Island-like, as buildings are dotted around the outskirts of an island while a bigger structure can be spotted inland.

A full reveal of Area 99 will be seen at CoD: Next on August 28, where partnered content creators will be playing a private match.
