Warzone Season 3 was being built up as the best update Call of Duty has ever rolled out. With the sequel title severely struggling, it needed a saving grace, and the developers promising a "fluid" and "dynamic" movement change only heightened the expectations.
Streamers and content creators alike have all bigged up the latest Warzone 2 Season, but after the update rolled out and the movement stayed pretty much the same, fans quickly became quite aggrieved.
With frustrations high, it now seems blood has boiled over. Warzone streamers have become the scapegoat for fans to blame, with some even going as far as sending death threats their way.
Warzone 2 streamers sent 'death threats' amid Season 3 update
Shortly after it was revealed the Warzone 2 Season 3 update was not all that it was cracked up to be, multiple streamers have been sent "death threats" by angry followers.
The first of the streamers to publicise their online abuse was Hector "Repullze" Torres, who claimed that he was sent threatening messages by fans who were angry that he hyped up the new season.
The streamer was also urged not to go live on stream - his living - due to other creators also getting sent similar threats.
Warzone streamers under fire for hyping Season 3
The reason streamers have been specifically targeted is that content creators were gathered by the Warzone developers before the season to give feedback on the gameplay, which has been vocally criticised.
The streamers then revealed that a string of movement changes were afoot, then took to social media to begin hyping up the new features.
Many critics have perceived this trick as a sponsored ad to convince others to redownload Warzone, which has caused anger in the community. However, death threats and online abuse targeted at creators are both misguided and malicious - come on, do better.
Repullze isn't the only streamer to have been caught up in the Season 3 backlash, making it even more concerning. If things continue, Warzone 2 might struggle to find any high-profile streamers to play the game, and that's not just because given many have already flocked back to Fortnite and Apex Legends.
