Warzone sunsets Duos and Trios playlists as fans call out ‘ridiculous’ decision

You're not allowed any friends anymore, just lone rangers or big fourgies.

Warzone Sunset

Call of Duty's Warzone battle royale was born out of friendships, as players worldwide forged relationships during the pandemic.

Whether it was with one loyal partner, keeping each other entertained and distracted from the chaos outside, or full teams with the lads and lasses, splitting up into different trios and laughing the nights away down the mic, Warzone was nothing if not a parlay.

But that's not the case anymore, as unless you have a full team of four and fancy getting knee-deep in sweat, Warzone has axed its team-based playlists and changed Call of Duty forever.

Warzone sunsets Duos and Trios modes

As revealed on social media, Raven Software is "consolidating" the current playlist selections for Warzone. For Urzikstan, both Duos and Trios are facing the axe, with only Solos and Quads being left.

Trios - the previously most popular squad size - is also being removed from Resurgence, alongside Solos, leaving quads of two and four left.

"While we draw closer to Black Ops 6 and make preparations for the future of Warzone, we will be consolidating the current playlist selection starting today," the devs wrote.

If your usual squad size was three, well, we guess you're s**t out of luck. The only remaining chance to play in trios is in Ranked on Resurgence. Only last week, duos players were calling for the addition of core playlists rather than the removal of even more.

Warzone fans kick off over reduced playlists

The Warzone community erupted into outrage overnight as the news landed. Popular streamer Tyler "TeeP" Polchow said, "We gotta figure this one out. This ain't it."

FaZe Clan competitor James "Crowder" Crowder added, "Listen.. I love you guys and Warzone but what the hell is going on with these playlist updates??"

Others pointed out that even if their choice of squad size isn't as popular as it used to be, they would rather spend more time in matchmaking than be forced into different sizes.

"I’m 100% positive people would rather wait 5 minutes to get into a trios or duos than be forced to play quads man down or with randoms. Worst decision I’ve ever seen," said Patryk "Rallied" Salata.

"This is actually ridiculous," added "dougdagnabbit" via the ModernWarzone channel.

With Verdansk due back in the Black Ops 6 era, trios will likely want to reform and run back the golden era, and this playlist update might just be the nail in Warzone's coffin if it prevents such reunions.
