It's hard to believe that Warzone has been around for four mighty years, but reflecting on its incredible successes when it launched, it's clear to see why the battle royale has prospered for so long.
The game reached its peak during the pandemic when players spent more time indoors. Verdansk gave us an incredible means of escapism as Call of Duty transitioned from video game franchise to video game platform.
As we look back on the golden days of Warzone, and with a refreshed excitement for the modern era of the battle royale shooter, we've got an early look at the cosmetic made to celebrate the milestone.
Warzone's four-year anniversary skin has leaked
Call of Duty has a habit of offering a wealth of freebies to celebrate its big milestones, with the last couple of years of Warzone anniversaries coming with a slow trickle of cosmetics to commemorate the occasion. According to a new leak, it seems like 2024 will be no different.
Twitter account WarzoneTFN has revealed a new leak that offers a peek at a new anniversary weapon skin for the MCW assault rifle. It was a weapon first introduced in 2019's Modern Warfare before making the leap to Warzone.
The skin itself is certainly very loud, featuring a smattering of postcard-esque snapshots of Caldera, Rebirth Island, and more classic locations from the game's history. It's incredibly charming, and if it's coming to players for free, then that only sweetens the pot.
More anniversary cosmetics could be on the way
As of right now, this skin is the only item we've seen from the anniversary event, and the other cosmetics are being kept under wraps...if there are more. Providing multiple free items can't be a strong business practice for Warzone, so we're just going to have to wait and see what comes next.
Even if the MCW assault rifle skin is the only item we get this year, it's treat for Warzone fans, especially as the skin pays homage to the maps that helped turn it into the iconic shooter that it is. Even if the maps it's referencing are ones that fans would rather be playing.
