Impatient Grand Theft Auto players are warned to watch out for a GTA 6 pre-order scam that's robbing them of $225 and leaving them without the game.

If there's one thing scammers are going to take advantage of, it's the hype surrounding the next Grand Theft Auto. We saw it with leakers making up their own fanciful GTA 6 rumours, and while that was a harmless endeavour to earn themselves online clout, some are taking it one step further.

The first GTA 6 trailer revealed the achingly long wait for a 2025 release, meaning we've got plenty of time to save for that rumoured $150 price tag. With GTA 6 being so far off, don't be lured in by the latest pre-order scam. We know you're all eager beavers, but you need to be careful out there on the internet

GTA 6 pre-order scam will lose you $225

GTA 6 fake pre-orders

You might remember when someone faked a conversation with Argos, claiming that GTA 6 pre-orders were going live on December 12, 2023. Seeing the potential of this, sellers on the G2A website have jumped on the trend and lured some unwilling gamers into their trap.

If you think a GTA 6 pre-order sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. Although G2A sells game keys at a reduced price, it's a sometimes shady online marketplace that's filled with fakes. Auto Evolution reported on Seller Zen_keys_network and a $225 listing for the "Grand Theft Auto VI | GTA 6 (PC) - Rockstar Social Club Key - GLOBAL"

As Zen_keys_network has a 100% positive feedback score, it's easy to see why some would think this mythical GTA 6 pre-order is the real deal. A second listing appeared from a seller called Pushkeys, and although their feedback is only 50%, it's still likely to have caught some gamers out.

Worryingly, these listings are still live for Xbox and PC despite being reported on. Whether G2A is aware of the issue and is ignoring it, is after a quick buck, or listings are slipping through the next, it's concerning that we're potentially two years out from an official GTA 6 release, and scammers are already making money.

As Rockstar has famously been quiet on the game's PC release in general, the idea of nabbing a PC pre-order at this stage is frankly ridiculous. Not to mention, the price tag is well above the industry standard. Still, you can't blame people for falling for these same - especially naive kids with access to their parents' bank details.

The trend of GTA 6 scams is picking up steam, and it was only recently we reported on fake launchers being available online, which will presumably infect your PC with malware. With GTA 6 poised to be the biggest game of all time, we can't blame the scammers for getting in early. We're sorry to say that things are only likely to get worse.
