We could actually be getting a Bully remake or remaster before GTA 6

Rockstar Games is teasing something related to the Bully franchise, and while it's all a pipe dream, it's sparked hopes of a Bully remake or remaster coming before GTA 6.

To quote Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame, "Don't give me hope." While Rockstar Games is largely known for the Grand Theft Auto games, let's not forget its acclaimed back catalogue includes everything from Manhunt to Red Dead Redemption.

Among its forgotten gems is Bully, which effectively answers the question of what GTA would be like if it were set in a school. It's been 18 years since the Bullworth Academy bell last tolled, and although we've since had a console re-release and the Scholarship Edition coming to mobile in 2016, the long-mooted modern remake has never happened.

Bully rating sparks hope of a remake or remaster

Gematsu reports that the Taiwan ratings board has listed Bully for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This has obviously given rise to swirling theories that we're getting a modern remake or remaster, but it might not be that simple.

Even though an Xbox 360 version was recently rated, the site thinks this could be an error. As there's already a PS2-emulated version of Bully available on the PS4 and Bully: Scholarship Edition is playable on PC via Steam, it's unclear what these ratings mean.

As Gematsu notes, this is likely to do with Bully being available to download from August 20 for GTA+ Members. Still, others are stoked that this could lead to something more. Most are just glad that Rockstar is acknowledging Bully's existence, especially after it seems plans for a sequel were scrapped.

Responding to the news, one fan said, "Is.. Is this real life? Rockstar touching Bully in 2024?" Another added, "I hope it sells a f**kton. Maybe then we'll get Bully 2 after all," while a third joked, "No way we actually have a Bully remaster/remake before GTA VI."

Bully 2 (and 3) were supposedly once in the works, although it seems Rockstar's commitment to GTA might've swallowed it. There's still a lot of love for Bully, with voice actor Gerry Rosenthal begging the devs to make a sequel. Imagine a world where we get a Bully remaster before GTA 6. Unlikely, but not impossible.

We'd love to see a Bull remake on a level with Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, but given the work that goes into it, we doubt Rockstar is interested right now. The fact we've seen fans make their own Unreal Engine 5 versions of Bully only dangles the carrot further, but for now, it looks like school's still out for the summer.
