With a remade Metal Gear Solid 3 on the way, and with new means to play the first three games in the series set to launch in autumn, Metal Gear fans are eating so well.
The return of Solid Snake has been long overdue, and with Hideo Kojima's distance from the franchise at this stage, it makes perfect sense for its return to reflect the franchise, especially as its tenure has been spread out across so many different consoles.
Hoping that this could lead to a slew of remakes like how Capcom has done with Resident Evil, we know exactly why it was Snake Eater that was first to receive the remake treatment.
Why would Konami remake MGS 3 first?
A new interview with IGN has illuminated exactly why Konami elected to bring Metal Gear Solid 3 back to life with the remake treatment over any other title.
"We chose Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater because it depicts the birth of BIG BOSS (Naked Snake), which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series," reveals a Konami spokesperson. "Another reason is that many fans have been requesting a remake of this game for a long time."
It's fair - as something of a prequel to the original games, it makes sense for us to begin Snake's story from - well - the beginning, and gamers have certainly been crying out for this to be the game that gets revived.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is among the most beloved of the entire franchise, so it's perfectly reasonable that the Konami team would open the doors to MGS remakes with the one that fans want the most.
Is Kojima attached to Metal Gear Solid Delta?
When asked if Hideo Kojima or his company, Kojima Productions, was attached to the development of the new remake, Konami officially dampened our hopes and confirmed something that we probably knew all along.
"They are not involved," the spokesperson said of Kojima Productions. "However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world."
Either way, the game is likely to be a blast - let's just hope they can hold onto the Kojima of it all without his presence in development.
