It looks like the development of Fable could be in serious trouble, as there are swirling rumours that Microsoft has restarted it internally.

We haven't heard much from the Fable camp in a while, and it's a growing cause for concern with fans. The series has been a long-standing example of the fact that you don't have to reinvent the wheel to make a fun, silly, and engaging RPG that players can restart the second they finish it.
For years, Fable has been the driving force to play on Xbox for many. Despite the hype that came with the reveal of Fable - set to reboot the franchise- it dwindled quickly after players realised that we don't actually know anything about it.
Given that the team has been incredibly quiet about Fable, we're rightly worried that things could be going dark. And now, we might be about to get some news - that might not please fans.
Has Microsoft Restarted Fable?
Well, that's not good. Rumour has it that the entire production of Fable has been overturned, adopting a new development in Unreal Engine 5.
These claims came from 4chan (we know, take it with a fistful of salt), and suggested that the game's original "Forzatech" build was "unplayable" according to its team, and that it will never see the light of day.
If we believe any of the above, Fable will move to UE5 and start over from scratch immediately. It's a concerning claim, especially as the future of the series remains clouded - but some gaming industry professionals aren't sure about the rumours.
Gaming Experts Decry Fable Rumours
It looks like not everyone is convinced by the new rumours, as staff from GamesIndustry.biz seem to confirm that Fable hasn't restarted its production.
Who to believe when it comes to the production of Fable falls to you. If this rumour is to be trusted, then it's dreadful news for Xbox, which is already a company that's struggling to justify itself in the way of exclusives right now.
Remembering Fable was announced before the Xbox Series X and S were even official, it would be a major blow to see the game slip into 2025, 2026, or even later. A big change could be coming for Fable, and only time will tell if it's a good one.
