Will Smith clearly can throw a punch because the infamous moment the actor slapped Chris Rock across the face during 2022's Oscars ceremony has knocked Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson's YouTube record out of the park.

There was a lot of exciting moments from the 94th Academy Awards. Beyoncé returning for a powerful opening number, Ariana DeBose becoming the first openly queer woman of colour to win Best Supporting Actress, and Troy Kotsur becoming the first deaf man to win an acting Oscar, to name a few. However, all anyone could talk about was the moment when Will Smith stormed on stage and hit presenter Chris Rock, after he made a joke about Smith's wife Jada's shaved head. The joke clearly didn't sit well with the couple given Jada's struggle with hair loss due to alopecia, and it sparked a clip that shook the viewers at home and at the ceremony.

It was a moment that had to be seen to be believed. As the drama circulated around the internet, viewers flocked to YouTube to watch the shocking moment. So much so, that MrBeast's previous record for the highest amount of views in 24 hours was obliterated by the clip.

What Was MrBeast's YouTube Record?

YouTuber MrBeast may have been on the platform since he was 13, but in recent times his career has soared, pulling in more than 100k subscribers a day with his mind-blowing content. Things then exploded for the YouTuber with his video '$456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!', in which he spent $3.5 million recreating the intense games we saw in the South Korean Netflix hit TV show, Squid Game

As of writing, the video has 235,028,270 million views on YouTube, 42 million of which was just within the first day of it being uploaded. As a result, MrBeast obliterated previous YouTube viewership records and broke the record for the highest amount of views in 24 hours. It also became the fastest non-music video to hit the 100 million mark and MrBeast became the record-holder for the most number of subscribers in one day, with 1 million new followers.

Will Smith Oscars Moment Smashes MrBeast's YouTube Record

MrBeast continued to hold onto his achievement for the most YouTube views in one day until March 28, when the record was smashed by the video of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony. According to ComicBook, the Guardian's upload of the viral clip went on to gain 56 million views in less than 24 hours. In doing so, the news website beat out competition from the plethora of other clips featuring the dramatic moment.

As of writing, MrBeast hasn't publicly commented on the record-breaking news. However, with the altercation continuing to dominate the internet and already becoming a meme, it's a record that even a high-profile YouTuber such as MrBeast might struggle to reclaim.
