MachineGames could finally be ready to "Blazkowicz" its way back into our lives, as a mysterious job listing hints that Wolfenstein 3 might be just around the corner.

While many associate Doom with the birth of the first-person shooter, that honour actually goes to 1992's Wolfenstein 3D. There have been some middling entries over the years, however, MachineGames took the reins and delivered a soft reboot with 2014 Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Critics loved the change in style that put the story ahead of action, and when the studio gave us The New Colossus in 2017, it was an even bigger return to form. We've had other Wolfenstein games since, but for those wanting a proper trilogy for B.J. Blazkowicz, you're in luck.

Is Wolfenstein 3 On The Way?

We know that MachineGames is working on the hyped Indiana Jones game, but beyond that, a post on LinkedIn hints that Wolfenstein 3 will be next on the docket.

Former employee Melissa Petrucci says that she's just finished her time at Machine Games, having worked on Indiana Jones and an "unannounced project." As well as implying Dr. Jones is up next, it's left the door open to speculation about what the mystery game is.

Considering MachineGames isn't really known for anything other than Wolfenstein, we'd be surprised if we weren't returning to the IP. If this isn't Wolfenstein, we'd have to wait even longer for a third game, meaning it could be well over a decade since we last visited the mainline story of B.J.

Responding to the idea of Wolfenstein 3, one fan cheered, "Plz be Wolfenstein, they need to give an end to that story," while another added, "My bones can sense it's Wolfenstein 3."

Not everyone was convinced though, as someone else concluded, "I would guess that this other project is a collaboration with another studio, maybe like ID software or maybe a smaller game. Don't see it being something like Wolfenstein 3."

Wolfenstein 3 Can Put The Franchise Back On Top

There have been two middling Wolfenstein games since the credits rolled on The New Colossus, with 2019's co-operative Youngblood picking up with B.J.'s daughters 20 years later. We also had the disappointing Cyberpilot from Arkane Lyon, so it's about time we had a solid outing.

Back in 2018, Bethesda’s Head of PR Pete Hines promised a third game was on the way, but that was before Microsoft bought ZeniMax media and pulled MachineGames under the Xbox exclusivity umbrella. He's since said, "You can put me at the head of the list of people who want to see another Wolfenstein game."

We covered how a job listing teased Wolfenstein 3 back in 2021, but so far, there's been no official reveal. There have been a lot of Bethesda announcements, and yet, still no Wolfenstein 3. With Microsoft once again skipping out on E3, the June Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase could be one to watch.
