It's safe to say that Verdansk is one of the most iconic maps in the Call of Duty franchise, and ever since the community left behind the fan-favourite location in the original Warzone, they've wanted to return.

As a result, any potential hint or clue from the devs that a resurrection might be coming sends the player base into a frenzy of excitement. Inside a recent Warzone 2 Season 4 promo, the Verdansk map could be seen written down in the background of a scene.

While this sparked speculation that Verdansk could be on the cards for the future, it appears the devs just used old footage from MW2019 Season 6.

Verdansk map appears in Warzone 2 Season 4 promo

Taking to Twitter on June 13, CharlieINTEL noticed that Verdansk appeared during the Season 4 promo for Warzone 2. Despite this starting the hype train rolling at first, the outlet claims this is simply "old footage from the Modern Warfare 2019 Season 6 trailer."

They made it very clear that "Verdansk is not returning" and that the map's feature in the background of the trailer is most likely a mistake from 'Activision marketing.'

Despite this, it's confusing why the devs would choose to utilise dated footage in a brand-new trailer, with one user jokingly asking, "Is anyone actually working over there?"

What map is coming to Warzone 2 next?

If the return of Verdansk is not a possibility, then which new battle royale map is coming to Warzone 2 in the near future?

Well, Vondel arrives as a new Resurgence location in Season 4, but as for huge maps, leaks point towards the introduction of Las Almas in December.

According to Insider Gaming, this is expected to come alongside Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 and the map is located in Mexico. It makes an appearance in the MW2 campaign, and so far, there's no indication of whether it will replace Al Mazrah.

So, although Verdansk won't be coming to Warzone 2 anytime soon, at least there's plenty to look forward to if you're a Call of Duty fan.
