Once thought to be saving the FPS genre as a free-to-play, live-service, and competitive-first title blessed with all of the knowledge of Call of Duty and with the backing of Ubisoft, XDefiant has continued to xdefy logic as to its release.
After a promising, yet unpolished, first Beta run, fans have been eagerly anticipating when this rough diamond will be hydraulically pressed and released as the new shining star of the genre.
But, delays have occurred, leaving XDefiant in a heap of trouble, and the latest wave of testing appears to have "done nothing."
XDefiant testing hasn't impressed loyal fans
The last wave of testing for XDefiant was rolled out to help Ubisoft and the team get a grasp on the servers, which struggled in the opening weekend of the Beta, and iron out some other wrinkles.
But the wrinkles persist, and XDefiant is about as creased as an elephant's backside, according to fans.
In a recent https://www.reddit.com/r/XDefiant/Reddit thread post-testing, players called out problems with net codes, hit registrations, laggy servers, and desyncing, claiming that the year of development, since it first aired, has done "nothing".
"They completely managed to do nothing for a whole year. The netcode is even worse and the desync even more prevalent than it was during the previous playtest last year," the Redditor said.
XDefiant still has major issues to solve before launch
If XDefiant truly wants to conquer the FPS market by being the best free-to-play game, it looks like there is still several obstacles to hurdle over, which might not be music to fans' ears knowing that the devs are hell-bent on porting the finished article as a perfect masterpiece.
Coming out as number one on the fix charts is desync, with the Reddit thread's most popular comment being "Dsync is pretty bad. Die around corners so much."
"I agree with the movement being clunky, sometimes when I shoot enemies I hit them with marshmallows or nuclear bombs, there is no in-between," added a second fan.
Others think that this solidifies earlier reports that the title is trying its best to "do what Call of Duty is doing", and everything that XDefiant once promised to be might be nothing but another Ubisoft flop.
