Since its launch, XDefiant has been teething. Suckling at its dummy until it matures into a full-grown adult.
But as XDefiant enters adolescence with Season and moves on from its pre-school stage, it finds itself in quite the identity crisis.
Season 1 beckons and fans are already claiming that Ubisoft "has no idea what it wants to be" as the new GSK faction throws up some questionable abilities.
XDefiant reveals new GSK Faction for Season 1
Continuing the trend of combining Ubisoft franchises, like the Splinter Cell-based Echelon Factoion, the new team arriving in Season 1 will be the Rainbow Six-influenced GSK.
Primed and ready in their police uniforms, the GSK characters Kaptan, Krieger, and Stark will boast abilities that are much more military than the likes of Ded-Sec's annoying spider.
The most divisive ability in the GSK kit is its passive, as Ubisoft has revealed that the helmets they wear will "nullify the headshot multiplier," making them a two-shot kill rather than a one. This is much to the disdain of sniper fans.
XDefiant players confused at new GSK sniper counter
Snipers have been a constant debate in XDefiant, as the one-shot-kill weapons are very overpowered but also lean into that 'skill gap' that the developers are holding on to.
The new faction seemingly makes snipers redundant - against GSK at least - and players are now confused at this change. It serves as neither a nerf nor an acceptance, and rather a half-hearted defence of saying, "If you're sick of snipers, use GSK and forget about the rest of the abilities."
Call of Duty personality "TheGhostOfHope" summarised the confusion, taking to X to say, "This game has no idea what it wants to be or what it wants to do lmao." Another fan took aim at the Rainbow Six crossover being the Faction to have sniper defence.
"So you're telling me that the characters from the game where you can be one-shot headshot from anywhere on the map, are immune to one shot headshots from snipers in XDefiant. Got it lmfao," they said on X.
GSK likely won't be the most popular Faction in the game when it releases, but it still serves a purpose in Ranked play, considering its now immortal status on defence.
