Another one bites the dust, it seems. Having been arguably the biggest threat to Call of Duty's monopoly, XDefiant players look to be resigning themselves to the fact that Ubisoft's arcade shooter simply hasn't cut the mustard and might already be dying.
Although originally pitched as the "CoD killer," XDefiant is struggling to get off the ground. Just six months after its release, players are already fearing that XDefiant might not be alive in another 12 months.
Players fear XDefiant won't survive 12 months
Fans feared that their professed CoD rival missed the chance to capitalise on the misfortunes of Modern Warfare 2, now that MW3 has steadied the sinking ship, and they might just be right.
In a post on Twitter (formerly X), which shows XDefiant only having a mere 1.7k viewers on Twitch, players have opened up on their fears that the game may be destined to doom soon.
"I think it’s time we have this talk about XDefiant…" the post reads, as content creator "Zii" said, "I’m not sure if it’s gonna survive a year from now."
"It’s almost like the community set up false hope for the devs and now the community is eating the dirt they chose to make. That’s what happens when we lie about the game being 'ready'," one fan said in a popular comment.
Another added, "The game is good at its core but it's missing an enjoyment factor when playing idk can’t explain it." Of course, Twitch numbers don't tell the full story, as viewership can often be minimal on games without much of a popular content creation space. Yet, a title can still claw in some good numbers in terms of player count.
XDefiant has wilted, though, and with problems with core playlists like Ranked, Ubisoft has quite a tough job on its hands to turn things around. Will XDefiant be around in another year? Watch this space.
