It's been a wild ride in the Modern Warfare 3 era for Zombies fans, but less than halfway through the game's lifeline, those loyal limb-loppers are calling time on it.

The new open-world experience offered a lot of promise after originally winning over those die-hard round-based fans, but in the second season, support for the mode has dropped off, and there's little to no life left in it. Zombies has flatlined already, and the air is filled with regret of what could have been.

MW3 fans label 'Zombies' as officially 'Dead'

After yet another disappointing Zombies update, with next to no new content, the usually loyal fanbase has taken to a Reddit threat titled, "Zombies is dead, and I'm p*ssed as hell about it," to express their anger.

"I'm so f**king done guys," the Reddit user said. "I want to enjoy zombies. I want to play and I especially want the green and gold camo. But I can’t get through a single damn match without a game-breaking bug, crash, or glitch."

The user also pointed out that the developers have patched the Tombstone glitch, which allowed players to regain after being kicked out of games due to glitches, adding, "I'm p*ssed."

Another user agreed, saying, "I wished the higher-ups would understand that it's not just warzone and multiplayer that brings in money. Zombies does as well and it's sad to see this game mode get ignored like this."

Is MW3 Zombies dead, or just un-dead?

Just like that Tombstone glitch, is there a way back for Modern Warfare 3 Zombies to revive like its namesake mummified corpses, or is it simply all silence in the graveyard where it lies?

It's apparently the latter, as aside from a few tweaks planned for Season 2 reloaded including a new boss variant, Treyarch has discarded the game mode and appears to be focusing on Call of Duty 2024.

It's not all doom and gloom for Zombies fans, as Call of Duty 2024 does offer a lot of promise, although back-to-back-to-back years of little action is quite a long wait for some quality round-based zombie-slaughtering action.
