Fans of Astro's Playroom may be sad to see Astro Bot doesn't have the Time Trial missions that challenge you to rush through levels as quickly as possible, but the game is set to feature a similar mode as post-launch DLC.

Is there a Speed Run mode release date?

The Speed Run mode has no concrete release date as of writing this, but an interview with the Creative Director Nicolas Doucet in Famitsu magazine - translated by @Genki_JPN - revealed we'll see the mode "by the end of the year."

That means you'll only have to wait a few months at most to try out the game mode. This also gives you a chance to get through as much of Astro Bot, its optional content, and collectables as possible before it releases.

What is Speed Run mode?

Astro Bot gameplay

The Time Trial challenges from Astro's Playroom tasked you with finishing short missions in under 60 seconds by making the most of your skill set and the game's mechanics.

While we don't have exact details on the Speed Run mode in Astro Bot, Doucet revealed they'll be like the ones in the previous game.

There were leaderboards to go along with the mode, allowing you to see how your time compares to friends and the global playerbase. We'd assume the same feature will be back, as it fits with a time-based mode.
