Spirits let you transform into powerful yaogui in Black Myth: Wukong to unleash their signature skill in battle, giving you an extra tool in your arsenal.

There are many to collect, and to ensure these remain useful throughout the game, you'll need to upgrade them as you go on.

How to find Spirits

Sprits can drop from both bosses and specific regular enemies. The Spirit will hang in the air above the slain enemy, allowing you to collect it with the Gourd by interacting with it.

I've found that the bosses without cutscenes prior to fighting them are more likely to yield a Sprit.

For the regular enemies, you can tell if an enemy has a Spirit by blue flame that hovers around their body (like in the image above).

How to upgrade Spirits

You can upgrade Spirits from Shrines, by selecting 'Self-Advance' and then 'Cultivate Spirits'. Upgrades only appear to reduce the Qi cost of a Spirit, and won't affect the passive or active abilities they possess.

Each upgrade will cost you Will, with it scaling as you reach the higher upgrade tiers.

After the first upgrade, you'll also need special rare materials, which the material you need changing depending on the particular Spirit.

You'll find these materials by just exploring -  gathering them from defeated enemies, bosses, and chests.

It's worth checking back at the Spirit upgrade menu occasionally to see if you can make a new upgrade, as Black Myth has a lot of different materials you'll come across, making it hard to remember exactly what you need.
