Many Fortnite players wonder if the meteor is a viable landing spot and loot source like the Island in the sky over Loot Lake. The good news is that you can drop on the meteor and loot it, but the bad news is that it’s a tiny place with scarce loot, so it’s not a great choice unless you’re playing a solo or a duo match.

As soon as you land on the meteor, you’ll feel the low gravity. As a result, you can hover in the air for a bit by pressing the jump button as if you have a balloon attached to you. For the looting part, look around the edges of the meteor where most of the weapons and supplies are. You can also find plenty of loot inside the caves that you can enter from the side.

As we mentioned before, the meteor is not a place to find legendary loot, as it's just a regular unnamed landmark. If you want some rare loot, you should go to Hotdrops and shoot down the supply drones.

After you loot the meteor, you can jump off and launch yourself into the air. If you want to visit the place again, there are some rifts below it to get you back up there.

Why is there a meteor in Fortnite?

Meteors have played a significant role in Fortnite’s history. They first appeared in the game on February 22, 2018, when the Season 3 Battle Pass was launched. Later, a huge meteor crashed into Dusty Depot and Factory, transforming them into Dusty Divot. The impact also affected several other locations, such as Tilted Towers and Risky Reels.

Meteors have returned to Fortnite OG, hovering over Factory and frozen in time. They will unfreeze during The Big Bang finale event on December 2, 2023, and pass through a rift above the factory. The end result will likely be that meteors will emerge right over Loot Lake, where they smash the Zero Point, causing it to turn into a black hole.

That's all there is to know about the meteors in Fortnite. If you also want to know what challenges are currently in the game or what's new in the most recent update then check out our Fortnite homepage.
