How to remove air pollution in Cities Skylines 2
Find out how to remove air pollution in Cities Skylines 2, as it can make your citizens sick and fill the sky with smog that ruins your perfect metropolis.
Nobody wants air pollution clouding the perfect horizon of your metropolis in Cities Skylines 2, so make sure to find out how to remove it to make your cims and city healthier.
Any form of pollution is definitely unwelcome in any Cities Skylines metropolis, but air pollution is one of the worst as it can so easily travel far beyond its original location. I've found myself cursing my past decisions when burdened with a sea of air pollution, but it was fairly easy to solve in the game once I used the steps listed below.
So, continue reading to find out how to remove air pollution in Cities Skylines 2, as it will make your city a much healthier place to be.
How to reduce & avoid air pollution
While there is no silver bullet that you can use in Cities Skylines 2 to instantly remove all air pollution in your city, you can take the following steps to gradually reduce and avoid producing any more:
- Switching to renewable energy sources
- Relocating or rezoning industrial away further away from residential areas
- Place air pollution-producing areas downwind from affected areas
- Use landscaping and terraforming to block off air pollution spread
One of the best ways I've found to mitigate or completely negate air pollution production in your city is by opting for renewable energy sources.
These do need to be unlocked with Development Points as you progress through the various Milestones, but you can go straight for them at the beginning and avoid any air pollution headaches down the line. The Nuclear and Solar Power Plants are the best for this, as they produce zero ground or air pollution.
Relocating industrial areas and placing them downwind is also a really important thing to do if you're seeing air pollution as an inevitability in your city. You will, at some point, need to zone standard Industrial buildings, and these do create heavy air pollution. Before doing this, check which direction the wind is going through the 'Air Pollution' sensor and place your Industrial zones in a way that means their production does not blow into your residential areas.
If you've already zoned Industrial inefficiently though, and rezoning isn't a possibility, you can take advantage of terraforming and landscaping tools to literally block the spread of air pollution in your city. While it might seem a little silly at first, air pollution cannot travel through things, so creating a hill or placing lots of tall trees can really help block the spread of nasty air.
How to check air pollution in Cities Skylines 2
When trying to deal with air pollution you will definitely want to check where it is coming from, and that can be done by opening the sensors menu from the 'i' button in the top-left, then selecting the clouds node in the bottom left.
This will show you the buildings that are producing air pollution, and where it is spreading from those buildings. It is a great way to understand how it is affecting your city, and where you need to move certain zones that are particularly bad.
That wraps up everything you need to know about air pollution in Cities Skylines 2 though, showing you how to check and remove it.
