How to get through the Glacial Passage in Dave the Diver Chapter 5
The Glacial Passage is a treacherous area that Dave must traverse in Chapter 5, filled with puzzles and aggressive creatures, here is how to get through it.
Dave the Diver is chock full of things to do, and in between running the sushi restaurant and managing every other activity in the game, there's also a main mission line to follow.
In Chapter 5, Dave the Diver must traverse a particularly treacherous area for the Sea People, the Glacial Passage, which is filled with puzzles and danger. So to learn how to get through it unscathed, here's a full breakdown of all the steps you'll need to take.
Entering the Glacial Passage
The journey begins when Suwam grants Dave access to the Glacial Passage through the large door in the village. There is a path straight down, but it has been blocked to prevent the Gadons from escaping. As such, Dave will need to take the long way down and solve some puzzles in the process.
Upon entering, there will be a mural to take a picture of. You simply need to adjust the zoom until the light turns green, then take the picture. Later, there will be pictures to take in colder areas where you will need to wipe the frost off the lens before taking the picture.
Head through the door to the right to enter the first puzzle room. There are walls blocking your path, and colourful buttons around the area. To proceed, you must:
- Swim up and press the Blue/Yellow button
- Swim through the lower passage and press the Green/Yellow button
- Press the Blue/Yellow button again, then swim through the upper passage
- Press the Green/Blue button to open the last wall and exit the puzzle
After this, you will encounter your first Gadon in the area. You can use the statues to hide and wait for the creature to pass before moving on. Swim on to find the second mural, then down to enter the second puzzle room.
Here you'll encounter large circular stones with tunnels through them, which you can rotate to create a path. Enter the first one and press the button inside to make it rotate, this will allow you to swim down through the second circle and on to the next step.
A cutscene will play, showing you that you can hit Divine Tree Fruit to make them flash and disorient the Gadons. Now we are onto the second puzzle. To complete this, you must:
- Rotate the first circle once, then swim up
- Rotate the second circle three times to create a path to the end
The door to the next area is blocked by ice, so pick up the Divine Tree Fruit and carry it to the door to melt the ice. This will bring you to the room directly below where you started. Pull the chain down to open the passageway back to the beginning, this will be important as we go.
How to melt the ice
The way forward is blocked by ice, so we'll need to melt it. To get started, swim to the left to enter the next region.
You'll find yourself in a room with the same puzzle elements from earlier. The goal here is to create a beam of light that will shine from the far side of the room, back to the frozen door.
Here is what you need to do:
- Enter the first circle and rotate it once, then swim up
- Hit the Yellow/Blue button to open the yellow wall below
- Rotate the circle again, then swim left and down to where the Fruit is
- You can hit it to disorient the Gadon
- Swim through the bottom area to the second circle and rotate it once
- Exit the circle to the right, go down and grab the Fruit, then use it to melt the ice on the left
Now you just need to carry the Fruit to the other end of the room and drop it into the device. It will reveal another mural, then fire a beam back the way you came. Follow it back to find the mirror isn't pointing the right way, and there is a rock preventing it from moving.
How to get the crowbar in Dave the Diver
Returning to Cobra to ask for advice, he will tell you that there was a crowbar on the delivery ship. We need to retrieve it, so return to the site of the sunken delivery ship by diving down to it, and pass through it to enter the Under Sunkenship region.
Swim straight down and you'll see the crowbar on the left. It is surrounded by rocks, and you need to pick each one up and move it clear away from the crowbar to get it. When you do, three crabs will jump out and attack you.
You'll need to defeat them, so use your weapons or just drop the rocks on them until you're clear. With that done, you can perform a timing minigame to pull the crowbar out of the rocks.
Take it back to the Glacial Passage, and use it on the rock behind the mirror to knock it loose.
Deep in the Glacial Passage
Now that the way is clear, we can enter the deeper portion of the Glacial Passage. Swim down, nab a picture of the mural, and then head to the right. This brings us to another puzzle room, involving mirrors. The steps here are as follows:
- Swim down and grab the Fruit
- Bring it back up and put it in the device
- Turn the lower mirror and the one on the right to melt the ice around the Yellow/Blue button
- Turn the lower mirror again to melt the ice and grab the Gold Fish Statue
- This is optional, but easily picked up
- Turn the middle and upper mirrors to melt the ice and proceed
Another mural is ahead, snap it then swim down to the next puzzle room. Here, we will need to deal with mirrors that cannot be rotated and instead must be moved along tracks.
- Grab the Fruit at the bottom of the room and bring it to the device on the right
- Rotate the lower mirror twice, then raise up the mirror on the left
- Move the mirror at the top of the room to the left to melt the ice ahead
- Enter the circle and rotate it once
- Rotate the next mirror to send the beam of light down
- Move the mirror on the right down, then move the middle mirror to the right
This will clear the way to the next room, and with that, we are finished with the puzzles in the Glacial Passage. Up next, though, is something much worse.
Giant Gadon boss
In the next room, after Dave turns on the light, we will be met with a gigantic Gadon. After a cutscene, we will be in a narrow corridor with a strong current. The objective here is to escape and avoid hazards along the way. There will be ice on the floor and ceiling, as well as some icicles falling down.
To make matters worse, the Giant Gadon is in hot pursuit. It will occasionally swing at you, which it telegraphs with a glowing blue hand. When you see that, swim up to avoid the attack.
There are a couple of stages of this, where you simply need to keep moving and avoiding obstacles. Make it to the end, then pull the pin to barricade the exit and avoid the Gadon.
