What is the Flesh System in Dead Island 2?
Dead Island 2 lets you rip and tear through zombies in the game. Here's exactly what the Flesh System in Dead Island 2 provides you.
The Flesh System in Dead Island 2 will elevate the gameplay and violence for players. As an acronym for "Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids," here's exactly what the Flesh System does in Dead Island 2.
- We recommend that you play the original Dead Island again.
What does the Flesh System in Dead Island 2 affect?
The Flesh System in Dead Island 2 is basically how the dismemberment works in the game. If you slice an arm with a sword, it will fall off. You will see the limbs break apart from the sharp weapon. "You can fight a zombie for a while and just get more damage, more feedback, and a real feeling that the zombies are made of something," said Senior Render Programmer Aaron Ridge to Game Informer.
In several videos, you can see blood clouding the entire body of a zombie and if you strike so many times, the flesh will get torn off from the bone. It's absolutely gross and not for the faint of heart. However, it does add that necessary feedback, so you know that you're causing damage with your blunt or sharp melee weapon. "There's a volume of mass instead of a shell you're hitting," Ridge said.
"We really wanted to make sure that the impacts felt impactful, and obviously it's a zombie game (people want a lot of gore), so we really came up with it as a method to just making the minute-to-minute gameplay more enjoyable," said Technical Art Director Dan Evans-Lawes in the same interview.
- Dead Island 2 knows exactly who it's trying to appeal to, according to our preview of the game.
Do different weapons affect zombies in alternate ways?
Yes, different weapons have varying results on zombies when it comes to the Flesh System in Dead Island 2. Evans-Lawes points out that a dagger can't cause the same velocity of damage on a body that a sword can. "If you stab someone with a dagger and like take half off the chest, it doesn't feel right," he said. He also states that the appearance of the zombie is "indicative of how much health [it has]."
Hopefully, the graphics in Dead Island 2 will be a step up from other zombie titles like Call of Duty and Back 4 Blood.
