Deathloop has hit Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Extra, and undoubtedly, a new wave of players are diving in to check out one of 2021’s highest-rated games. Developed by Arkane Studios - most notably known for popular titles such as Dishonored and Prey - this immersive sim is attracting a lot of attention.

Of course, with such a unique genre, Deathloop is confusing a few players in some areas, and one such realm is when it comes to saving the game. While it may be leaving a few stumped, we’ve detailed everything you need to know about saving in Deathloop.

Deathloop: How To Save

Arkane is often known for creating games that invite trial and error gameplay, however, things are a bit different when it comes to Deathloop. Since the game embodies some roguelike elements, that aspect has been stripped away here for something entirely new.

Players are tasked to escape a constant time loop they’ve been suckered into, and with that gameplay mechanic, death plays a big part in how Arkane wants players to approach the game. This means manual saving is disabled, delivering a different experience to the studio’s past work.

Instead, players will have to rely solely upon autosaving, which is restricted to certain points in the game and includes the following:

  • At the beginning of a mission
  • At the end of a mission
  • Specific checkpoints within a mission

Obviously, this can be a hurdle for players who don’t have too much free time on their hands or run into problems such as the game crashing. However, there does appear to be a workaround for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners.

Saving Workaround For PS5 And Xbox Series X|S In Deathloop

For anyone who may need to drop the game for a few hours and doesn’t want to risk losing progress, unique features on both consoles may be a temporary workaround for this issue.

On PS5, you are able to suspend the game in rest mode - something Returnal players did before the game created an internal save feature. It’s not always the most reliable and isn’t recommended for prolonged amounts of time, but could be a helpful tool for anyone looking to step away for a few hours and not lose progress.

On Xbox Series X|S, it’s been reported by various players that the Quick Resume feature is applicable with Deathloop, meaning you can suspend the game at any point and jump into something else without the risk of losing data.

While these aren’t the recommended ways of jumping out of the game, they do offer short-term ways to step away if necessary.
