The Destiny 2 Lightfall raid is up next, titled The Root of Nightmares, and Guardians need to get to work in order to be prepared. Destiny 2 tends to pair each expansion with a new raid, coming days or weeks after the new release. The Root of Nightmares is indeed coming with Lightfall, and as expected, details are scarce. Here is everything we know so far about the Destiny 2 Lightfall raid the Root of Nightmares.

The crucial detail of every new raid launch is how long we have to prepare. With years of experience, Bungie has learned some lessons regarding how and when to launch a new raid. First and foremost, you need to give the players some time.

As such, the raid coming with Lightfall will become available over a week after the expansion launches. Players can begin the new raid from 9 AM PST/12 AM EST/ 5 PM GMT on Friday, 10 March.

This gives players roughly a week and a half between the launch of Lightfall and the raid to level up their character and prepare for the challenge.

Contest Mode is a feature of every new raid that comes to Destiny 2. This mode is temporary, an increased difficulty mode for the first players trying to complete the raid. There is always a race to be the first team that completes a new raid, and contest mode makes sure the challenge level is high.

Previously, each Contest Mode lasted for 24 hours. After which, the normal difficulty mode would be implemented, allowing many more players to complete the raid.

The difference with this raid is that Contest Mode on The Root of Nightmares will last for 48 hours, giving players until Sunday to try and beat it.

Nothing too specific is known yet about the raid. Bungie did reveal the name of the raid, The Root of Nightmares, and gave us some vague idea of what to expect in a tweet.

Without more context, we still cannot definitively say much about this raid. The strange plant life in the image looks similar to the same plant life seen in trailers, specifically when the Witness opens a portal and when the Traveller fires a large beam of light at the Pyramid fleet.

Our best guess is this might have something to do with the Veil, this mysterious thing that is hidden on Neptune. Clearly, there are things going on here that will only become clear after Lightfall.

That is everything we know about the Destiny 2 Lightfall raid. For more on the latest expansion, check out our Destiny 2 Season of Defiance breakdown.
