Destiny 2 Season 17 is on the way, and Bungie has started to give players an idea of what rewards they will be chasing next season. Destiny 2 keeps the game fresh by changing things up every season, adding new items and shuffling existing gear around. Season 17 is the first new season after the launch of Witch Queen, meaning it has a high bar to clear to keep the quality up to scratch. Here is everything we know about the upcoming Destiny 2 Season 17 release date, new weapons, raids, dungeons, and more.

Destiny 2 Season 17 Release Date

Destiny 2 Season 17: When does it start

Destiny 2 Season 17 begins on the 24th of May. On that day, at the normal reset time, Season 16 will end and the new season will begin. This means players have right up until that moment to complete any Season 16 content before the changeover takes place. A new season is a big change, the seasonal artefact will change over to a new one, and we will all lose our extra levels granted by the artefact. So don’t be worried if you log in on May 25th and your level is significantly lower than it was before.

New Weapons In Season 17

Destiny 2 Season 17: New weapons

So far, each Destiny season has come with a new exotic weapon, which has been available as part of the season pass. For Season 17, the Destiny 2 Trespasser exotic sidearm is on the way.

A new season also means a new ritual weapon. Season 16 had the Reckless Endangerment shotgun, and Season 17 plans to follow it up with the Chain of Command machine gun. Ritual weapons are now simpler to get than they once were, there is only one per season and it can be acquired from Vanguard, Crucible or Gambit activities.

No difference for Season 17, the Chain of Command will be earned through reaching maximum rank with any of the ritual activities. Which activity you choose is up to you, and whichever one you complete will also award you with an ornament for the weapon specific to that activity.

There will be new playlist weapons as well, such as the Riptide fusion rifle from Crucible, the Dead Weight shotgun from Gambit, and the Strident Whistle bow from Vanguard activities. In Trials of Osiris, we will be losing Shayura’s Wrath and The Messenger, but gaining the Forgiveness sidearm and the Burden of Guilt fusion rifle. There are new Nightfall rewards coming as well, these being the Horror's Least pulse rifle and the return of the Destiny 2 DFA.

New Dungeon in Season 17

Destiny 2 Season 17: Raids and dungeons

The biggest thing to note here is that there is a new dungeon coming to Destiny 2 during Season 17. Bungie has said there will be a new raid or dungeon each season of this year, which is pretty exciting news for players. There is a change coming to how raid and dungeon rewards work. The typical pinnacle rewards from recent raids and dungeons aren’t going anywhere, but there will also be a weekly raid challenge, one challenge in one of the raids that can be completed for a pinnacle reward.

Vow of the Disciple will continue to be a regular source of rewards, as will the currently relevant dungeons and the brand-new one that will be added during Season 17.

Season 17 Crucible Trials of Osiris changes

Destiny 2 Season 17: Crucible and trials of osiris

The Crucible as a whole isn’t seeing too much change as far as we know, there is a new map coming this season but that seems to be it for regular Crucible.

Bigger changes are coming to Trials of Osiris, as Bungie has said that Trials will be a focus during the season. There will be changes made to Adept weapons, as well as a seven-map rotation with a map voted on by players.

Other Changes Coming In Season 17

Destiny 2 Season 17: Other changes

Other changes meant to be coming include changes to weapon crafting. Bungie have plans to streamline weapon crafting materials, removing many of the current materials and changing up how players go about acquiring blueprints.

That is everything we know so far about Destiny 2 Season 17. To stay up to date with this constantly changing game, check out our Destiny 2 Weekly Reset guide.
