Destiny 2 Shattered Ruins is one of the ascendant challenges in the Dreaming City. Destiny 2 has a wide variety of activities across multiple planets and a variety of reasons to complete them. Despite the several years since the launch of the Forsaken expansion, there are still times when completing older content like an ascendant challenge is useful. Here is what you need to know to complete the Destiny 2 Shattered Ruins ascendant challenge.

Destiny 2 Shattered Ruins: How To Begin

Accepting the bounty from Petra Venj

For this challenge, you need to make your way to the Dreaming City. Your first task when you get there is to speak with Petra Venj. Petra has a weekly bounty for completing an ascendant challenge, so pick it up from her and venture out. For this challenge, we need to head to the Spine of Keres. This is the part of the Dreaming City where we first entered back in the Forsaken expansion.

When you load into the Dreaming City in the Divalian Mists, head towards Rheasilvia but take a left through the arch then straight forward towards the Oracle tower. Once you enter the tower, go out the door to the left.

Now, you need to drink a Tincture of Queensfoil in order to enter the Ascendant Realm. Queensfoil also helps you see hidden platforms in the Dreaming City, so you could walk all the way around along the main path, or you could drink the Queensfoil as soon as you exit the tower, take a right, then use the platforms that you can now see as a massive shortcut.

Continue making your way along the path, around and away from the back of the tower. Ahead will be some rocky, grassy areas sticking up out of the ground. At the back of one of them, you will see the portal to the Ascendant Realm floating just above. Jump into the portal to begin the challenge.

Destiny 2 Shattered Ruins: Completing The Challenge

Finishing the challenge and completing the bounty

Now you will be in the Shattered Ruins, it is extremely dark but you will see many objects floating in front of you. Your objective is to make your way to the top of the room and defeat the boss there. The first thing you need to do is start climbing.

Use the hovering debris to make your way upwards. Many of them will be covered with Taken mines. These can be a pain to deal with but in other respects, they are quite useful. They are easily avoided so long as you keep moving, and they act as a bit of a guide on where to go. Follow the mines and you will be on the right path.

As well as the mines, you will have some Taken to deal with on the way up. These will mostly be snipers like Vandals or Hobgoblins, so bring a weapon with some range. As you climb, try to balance the hurried pace of avoiding the mines with stopping occasionally to take in your surroundings and clearing out any snipers that might bring your ascent to an instant stop.

At the top of the Shattered Ruins is a circular room. The centre of the room is a raised platform with nothing underneath it, as the gap below is your way in. When you enter the room, you will be on the lower, outer area. Enemies will begin spawning on the raised area in the centre, including the boss.  The boss is a Taken Phalanx, which is a problem as this arena is quite precarious. It is very easy to fall back down, and you really do not want to fall and have to climb back up. Take the boss out as quickly as possible, claim your reward from the chest, and the challenge will be completed.
