Solstice 2024
The Final Shape has added new exotic weapons and armour to Destiny 2, and we now know how to get them, too. The game's arsenal has grown plenty over ten years, but there's always plenty of scope for new additions.
Some of the exotic weapons and armour pieces coming with TFS have been revealed, and have certainly piqued our curiosity. Here are the new additions that we know about so far.
How to get Exotic armour in The Final Shape
Exotic item | Class (Type) |
Essentialism | Hunter (Class Item) |
Stoicism | Titan (Class Item) |
Solipsism | Warlock (Class Item) |
Hazardous Propulsion | Titan (Chest) |
Gifted Conviction | Hunter (Chest) |
Mataiodoxia | Warlock (Chest) |
On top of the typical one piece of exotic armour for each class, The Final Shape brings the first exotic class items to Destiny 2, each of which can roll with two random exotic perks taken from other items, regardless of class.
Essentialism, Stoicism and Solipsism need to be unlocked by completing the Dual Destinies mission. Once that's done, you'll get a random roll of the one matching your class, but you can then earn others as rewards within the Pale Heart.
For Hazardous Propulsion, Gifted Conviction and Mataiodoxia, you'll need to have the cryptarch decipher enough engrams to rest your rank with him, unlocking engram focusing.
Hazardous Propulsion
This Titan chest activates whenever you use your class ability, and fires off a cluster of Exodus rockets. These rockets will target nearby enemies and bombard them with damage. It's hard to see how this might factor into any specific builds, but it is undeniably cool to drop your barrier and unload rockets at the same time.
Gifted Conviction
This one is a little less clearly defined, but the description reads 'Arc Aspects create bouncing explosives'. This seems to mean that abilities granted by your Aspects, such as the Tempest Strike melee ability, or the effects of Lethal Current. When activated, projectiles scatter around you and detonate, dealing Arc damage.
Mataiodoxia
For the Warlocks, this chest piece buffs your Strand melee ability Arcane Needles. Hitting an enemy with your Arcane Needles will cause a Suspend detonation, suspending all nearby enemies. This will be useful for both your Strand builds and the new Prismatic subclass.
Exotic weapons in The Final Shape
Weapon | Details |
Khvostov 7G-0X | Kinetic Auto Rifle |
Microcosm | Heavy Trace Rifle |
Red Death Reformed | Energy Pulse Rifle |
Tesselation | Energy Fusion Rifle |
Still Hunt | Energy Sniper Rifle |
Ergo Sum | Energy Sword |
Khvostov 7G-0X
The first exotic weapon announced for The Final Shape is a returning classic. The Khvostov 7G-0X is an exotic repress of the very first weapon the players picked up in the original game, and any New Lights in Destiny 2.
The original Khvostov did get an exotic upgrade in the original Destiny as well, meaning this is a returning exotic. Its unique perk makes every seventh bullet ricochet. These are not your average ricochet rounds, as a single bullet will bounce between several different enemies, dealing damage to each.
To get the exotic Khvostov, you'll need to find 17 Motes of Light strewn throughout the Pale Heart destination, opening up a fresh questline. Eight can be found in the Pale Heart while exploring, while nine come from Overthrow - expect it to take some time to grab all of them.
Microcosm
Microcosm is a unique weapon, the first Trace Rifle in the Heavy weapon slot. It is also a very interesting-looking weapon, that would not look out of place among the Covenant's arsenal in the Halo series.
This Heavy Trace Rifle's exotic perk has it deal 'massive bonus damage' to shielded enemies. It's also a Kinetic weapon.
We've got a full guide to the gun, and how to earn it.
Red Death Reformed
Another old favourite returning, Red Death Reformed is a new, Solar version of the iconic Destiny 1 Pulse Rifle.
As before, kills will heal your Guardian and buff your reload speed, and dealing damage also improves handling, reduces flinch, and increases movement speed.
It's nice and easy to earn, too - it's included in the Season Pass. We're still waiting for the Catalyst to unlock in Act 2 of Episode Echoes.
Tesselation
Tessellation is a new Fusion Rifle that adapts its energy to whichever grenade type you have handy. Doing so will help you build yourself into Transcendence, the new mini-Super of the Prismatic subclass more quickly.
Not only that, but the gun can actually absorb your grenade and fire it at opponents, too - meaning you can theoretically run an all-Strand or all-Stasis build for the first time.
Still Hunt
Bringing the magic of Golden Gun to all classes, Still Hunt is an exotic sniper rifle that you can earn from the post-campaign Wild Card exotic mission.
The Cayde's Retribution perk charges the weapon's Super bar (yes, it's got a Super) and then when you hold the reload button you can fire Golden Gun shots. That also buffs its other perk, Sharpshooter, which makes it easy to hit targets.
Ergo Sum
If you've been waiting for the option to have a Sword in your Energy slot, good news - Ergo Sum is here, and it comes with a bunch of different rolls that are mostly borrowed from other Exotic weapons.
To earn it, you'll need to complete a series of post-game quests until you tackle Destined Heroes. Follow that link to check out the perks, too, because you can have it cause lightning surges, Gjallarhorn-style cluster missiles, and even homing insectoid robots.
