The Destiny 2 Vow of the Disciple Raid has two secret chests, but their location and how to open them might not be immediately obvious. As with everything in this cryptic Raid in Destiny 2, there is a mechanic to follow in order to locate the chests and be able to open them for a series of loot and other rewards.
Completing the encounters throughout Vow of the Disciple isn’t your only source for Raid gear. The two secret chests, once opened, can drop a series of new rolls of the loot you already own from completing encounters in the Raid.
If you’ve not yet completed any, don’t worry, as the chests can also drop Spoils of Conquest and Raid mods which will make completing the Raid even easier than if you followed our Vow of the Disciple Raid guide to the letter.
Revealing the first secret chest will be done throughout the Disciple’s Bog journey as you push the boat towards the Pyramid. There are three destructible Resonant Shards or cruxes along the way. Once all three cruxes are destroyed, a door towards the end of the Disciple’s Bog will open, containing the chest.
The first crux can be found at the first stop location once the boat has begun moving. There’s a covered alcove directly to the left of where the boat comes to a stop. As you approach it, it’ll become marked, and shooting it will destroy it.
The second crux is at the next stop, tucked behind an obelisk sinking into the bog, directly in front of where the boat comes to a halt.
The third, and final crux, is underneath the bridge in the following area. As you approach the bridge, you will see a series of barred windows underneath. There’s one window without bars. Jump through and you’ll see the crux.
Once all three cruxes have been destroyed, a doorway will open. At the next stopping location, directly in front of you, surrounded by Scorn enemies, is this doorway. Heading inside will reveal the secret chest. Open this for your Vow of the Disciple Raid goodies.

The second secret chest can be found much further along in the raid, after the third encounter where you will have just defeated the Caretaker. There are three large rooms containing a series of enemies in this section, and a hidden path to the secret chest is after the second of these rooms. There are two directions you can go here but to get to the secret chest, you’ll want to take a right and follow the series of platforms on the right-hand side of the windows.
These platforms, like their counterparts on the left-hand side exit, are toggled on and off, so you’ll need to work with your fireteam to successfully navigate them. Once you get to the room itself, there’s a shard that can be shot to alternate the platforms. With one fireteam member shooting the shard at the correct times, the rest of the fireteam can reach the corridor of hexagonal pillars. Successfully navigate this final obstacle and you will see the second secret chest waiting for you.
You could also manoeuvre this pathway by sending one Guardian ahead. Once they’ve got their loot from the second secret chest they can drop straight down into a new room. Doing this will stabilise the hexagonal platforms, making it easier for the rest of the fireteam to jump across and gather the contents of the chest.
After opening both Vow Of The Disciple secret chests for the first time, enter the triumphs area of the Destiny 2 menu. Within the Vow of the Disciple subsection, there is a triumph called Secrets of the Sunken Pyramid, which should now be shown as completed. After selecting this, your Echoed Anger Shader will drop as a reward for uncovering more secrets of this devilishly mysterious Raid.
