Fortify is one of the many stats in Diablo 4 that play a vital role in the gameplay as it governs survivability. Certain classes in Diablo 4, like Druid, Necromancer, and Barbarian, have specific skills that proc Fortify status on the character.
To fully use the Fortify stat and benefit from it during battles in Diablo 4, you must know what it exactly does and how to trigger it. So, keep reading our guide as we explain Diablo 4 Fortify stat in detail.
- After you create your character, you might want to know how to respec in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 fortify stat explained
As we mentioned earlier, Fortify is one of the stats in Diablo 4 that governs the survivability factor of your character. Fortify adds a layer of shield, which many Diablo 4 players like to call extra HP, to your current pool of health. This allows you to take more incoming attacks than usual.

Depending on your class and their skill in the game, you accumulate Fortify status over time based on a certain percentage of your current HP. When Fortify's value exceeds your HP, you gain the Fortified buff, which reduces the incoming damage by 10%.
There are two visual cues that you can keep an eye on in Diablo 4 to keep track of the Fortify status and the Fortified buff. The first one is the circular meter that you can find on your HP bar.
It shows the accumulated Fortify stat. Once it forms a full circle or exceeds your current HP, you get to see the second cue. This is where your character gains an aura, signalling that the Fortified buff is in place.
At the time of writing, only three classes can proc Fortify status using their skills. These are:
- Druid
- Necromancer
- Barbarian
To check which of their skills can proc Fortify, you can just head to the Character menu and select the Abilities tab. There, you can hover over the different skills and read their description to learn whether they can proc Fortify upon use or not.

That being said, another benefit of accumulating Fortify in Diablo 4 is that it helps trigger the Overpowerd stat, which boosts the damage of your skills.
