How Long To Beat
If you are playing Diablo 4 and working on your end-game build to tackle the most challenging content, then you must know about the item power breakpoints, along with details on how it works and the maximum Item Power in the game.
Item Power is a stat that determines the overall power of your gear in Diablo 4. You can upgrade your gear to increase its Item Power and the overall stats, but if you want to maximize the stat bonus you get from upgrading your gear while saving resources, you must know about Diablo 4 item power breakpoints.
So, keep reading our guide as we explain item power breakpoints in Diablo 4 while going over how it works and the maximum Item Power in the game.
How do item power breakpoints work?
Item power breakpoints work as a threshold value your gear can attain or cross to see a massive bump in stats. Simply put, suppose you get a piece of equipment with Item Power 610. When you upgrade it three times, the new Item Power of the equipment becomes 625.
Now, the new Item Power of the equipment crosses the Tier 4 breakpoint and enters Tier 5. In the wake of that, you will see a massive increase in stats compared to upgrading a piece of equipment whose Item Power doesn't touch or cross a breakpoint.
You don't have to stress much; just equip gear whose Item Power is near a breakpoint. This means that when you upgrade it, the item crosses the item power breakpoint and gets a considerable increase in stats.
On the other hand, you must not use or upgrade gear that cannot cross an item power breakpoint. Otherwise, upgrading them will boost stats, but not by the amount you can get upon touching or getting past an item power breakpoint.

What are item power breakpoints in Diablo 4?
Item power breakpoint is a hidden game mechanic associated with your gear in Diablo 4 that governs the stats bonuses, and buffs you can get when you upgrade your gear.
The item power breakpoints in Diablo 4 are classified into six different tiers:
Tier | Item Power Range & Breakpoint |
1 | 1 - 149 |
2 | 150 - 339 |
3 | 340 - 459 |
4 | 460 - 624 |
5 | 625 - 724 |
6 | 725 or more |
You can see a massive increase in stats for your gear whenever its Item Power reaches or crosses the breakpoint.
What is the maximum Item Power in Diablo 4??
There is no confirmed maximum Item Power in Diablo 4, as the highest Item Power in the game is 725+ instead of a definite value. While we assumed the maximum item power to be 825, many players have found vendors selling items with an Item Power rating of 835 or even more.
Over on Reddit, a player shared that they have an "842 Item Power Ancestral Rare Wand" without any upgrades. So, when it comes to the maximum Item Power in Diablo 4, we would say it lies somewhere between 825 and 850.
That concludes our guide on Diablo 4 item power breakpoints as we have explained it while going over how it works and discussing the maximum Item Power in the game. While you are here, check out how to switch weapons as a Barbarian in Diablo 4. For more on Diablo 4, keep reading GGRecon.
