How Long To Beat
Lunar Shrines are a nuanced version of regular Shrines in Diablo 4 with an improved buff. Added to Diablo 4 with the Lunar Awakening event, the Lunar Shrines are the only means to earn Ancestral Favor in the game to level up your Ancestral Favor Rank and claim the ten tiers event rewards.
Whether to farm Ancestral Favor or use the extra XP bonus to level up a new character, you must know where to find Lunar Shrines in Diablo 4. Keep reading our guide as we share details on unlocking the Lunar Shrines while talking about where you can find them.
How to unlock Lunar Shrines
To unlock Lunar Shrines in Diablo 4, you must complete the starter quest for the Lunar Awakening event, which is as simple as heading to Ked Bardu and talking to the event NPC, Ying-Yue. Once that is done, the regular Shrines in the game will be replaced with Lunar Shrines.
Where to find Lunar Shrines
In Diablo 4, you can find Lunar Shrines at regular Shrines locations, inside Dungeons, world events, Whispers, and all around Sanctuary as you explore the open world.
While the Lunar Shrines don't appear on the world map, they appear on the mini-map as you explore Sanctuary. Moreover, as you explore the open world, more and more Corrupted Lunar Shrine events with Lunar Shrines will pop up around you.
To identify a Lunar Shrine, look for the blue asterisk mark on top of the Shrine icon, as highlighted in the above screenshot. The mark is your cue to identify whether the Shrine is regular or Lunar.
That being said, once you come across a Lunar Shrine, you can use it to gain Ancestral Favor, and instead of looking for another one, you can simply leave and rejoin the game to use it again.
As mentioned earlier, the Lunar Shrines also spawn inside regular and Nightmare Dungeons, and you can also increase the number of Lunar Shrines inside the dungeons using the Ancestor's Favor affix.
Lastly, we recommend players use their mount and start running around Sanctuary as it has been the most efficient way of finding and using Lunar Shrines in Diablo 4.
