What does a Diablo 4 DDOS attack mean?
For any Diablo 4 fans hearing all of this talk of a DDOS attack on Diablo 4 and other Blizzard games that aren't quite sure what it means, here is the short version.
A DDOS attack is a malicious cybercrime that puts an online service (such as an online video game) under such pressure that it cannot function.
It stands for Denial of Service, and usually involves flooding a server or device with illegitimate traffic in order to overload it.

There are a multitude of reasons why the Diablo 4 servers may occasionally shut off. Mostly they are shut down intentionally, either for maintenance or before a huge update.
Usually, scheduled maintenance lasts no more than a few hours. There can be other reasons, such as technical faults, or attacks the aforementioned DDOS attack, that cause the servers to shut down. Those are less predictable than intentional shutdowns, but thankfully those instances are rare.
Regardless of how or why the servers are shut down, the only thing any of us can do is wait. If you are itching to get back online, you can usually find out exactly when the servers are back on by keeping an eye on the Blizzard Customer Support Twitter accounts.
