How to open Silent Chests in Diablo 4

You need Whispering Keys if you want to unlock Silent Chests in Diablo 4.

The magical chains surrounding Silent Chests prevent them from being opened by normal means. To unlock Silent Chests, you need a Whispering Key. Whispering Keys are single-use, so you'll need a bunch if you plan to continue opening Silent Chests in your ventures across Sanctuary.

What are Silent Chests in Diablo 4?

Running into a Silent Chest in Diablo 4 is relatively rare!

Silent Chests are a unique type of chest in Diablo 4 with an increased chance of containing high-tier loot like Legendaries. Silent Chests look like regular chests except encased in shimmering gold chains.

Where to find Silent Chests in Diablo 4

You will encounter Silent Chests while out exploring the various regions of Sanctuary. These special chests appear randomly, so finding one requires a bit of luck!

Where can you find Whispering Keys?

Visit the Purveyor of Curiosities to buy Whispering Keys in Diablo 4.

The only way to get Whispering Keys in Diablo 4 is to purchase them from the Purveyor of Curiosities. The Purveyor of Curiosities primarily serves as Diablo 4's gambling vendor, but this NPC also sells Whispering Keys.

Diablo 4's chief Purveyor of Curiosities, Lizveth, resides in Kyovashad, the capital city of the Fractured Peaks. You can find the Purveyor of Curiosities in the southeast corner of the hub, marked on the in-game map as a bag of loot with a '?' engraved on it.

Whispering Keys cost 20 Murmuring Obols a pop. Murmuring Obols is a form of currency in Diablo 4, like Gold. Partaking in and completing the following will net you Obols:

Legions Zone Events
Local Events with Mastery Objectives
Quests that offer a Cache reward

Since you never know when you'll find a Silent Chest in Diablo 4, we recommend stashing at least a few Whispering Keys at all times so that you're never left with a Silent Chest you can't unlock. However, if you run into a Silent Chest and are short on Whispering Keys, you can always use a Town Portal to return to Kyovashad, buy a Whispering Key, and portal back to the waiting Silent Chest.
