How Long To Beat
It's worth learning what to do with the Rusted Key in Diablo 4, as it's a vital item for one of the game's dungeons, and it allows you to access the Drowned Seahag boss fight.
How to get the Rusted Key in Diablo 4
You can find the Rusted Key inside the Belfry Zakara Dungeon. This Diablo 4 Dungeon is situated at Rotspill Delta in Hawezar. The fastest way to get to the Belfry Zakara Dungeon is to use the Backwater Waypoint and travel north to the entrance.
To complete this Dungeon, you must progress through a series of objectives, one of which is to collect the Rusted Key. But before you can do that, you have to destroy the Drowned Bells, then make your way to the Salt Scarred Marbles. At the Salt Scarred Marbles, you will encounter the Anchorbound Chaplain.
Upon its defeat, the Anchorbound Chaplain will drop the Rusted Key. The Rusted Key is considered an Area Item and sports cyan-coloured text, making it near impossible to miss.
It's worth mentioning that there are reports of a bug where slaying the Anchorbound Chaplain doesn't award a Rusted Key. If this happens, you will need to reset the Belfry Zakara Dungeon and try again.
What to do with the Rusted Key in Diablo 4
Once you acquire the Rusted Key, your next task is to use it to open the Locked Door in the Belfry Zakara Dungeon. Once you find the Locked Door, interact with it to unlock it with the Rusted Key.
On the other side of the Locked Door, you will come face-to-face with one of the game's bosses, the Drowned Seahag. The Drowned Seahag is a formidable foe, so approach the battle with caution.
To survive, you will want to stay light on your feet to dodge the Drowned Seahag and her minions, plus avoid the hazardous puddles all over the floor. Chip away at the Seahag whenever you find an opening, and the boss will eventually fall.
Completing the Belfry Zakara Dungeon awards the Druid-only Aspect of the Ursine Horror in the Diablo 4 Codex of Power.
Why are there so many Rusted Keys lying around Kyovashad in Diablo 4?
If you frequent Kyovashad, the capital of the Fractured Peaks, you have probably come across more than a handful of Rusted Keys in the centre of town and near the exits. This is due to a bug with Area Items like the Rusted Key that results in the Area Item not being consumed after use.
The Rusted Key is meant to disappear after you use it to open the Locked Door. However, that doesn't always happen. Sometimes when you return to Kyovashad, the Rusted Key is still in your inventory.
The thing is, Area Items are supposed to be restricted to the specific area you discover them. For example, the Rusted Key is tied to the Belfry Zakara Dungeon. If you try to portal out or leave the area, you will get a message informing you that you will lose the Area Item.
If you find a Rusted Key tossed away on the ground in Kyovashad, it's because another Diablo 4 player managed to leave the Belfry Zakara Dungeon with the Rusted Key and then was forced to drop it whenever they decided to venture back out into Sanctuary.
If you personally collected the Rusted Key and still have it after using it to complete the Belfry Zakara Dungeon, you can safely trash it, as that's the only purpose of the Rusted Key. And if you haven't completed the Belfry Zakara Dungeon but find a Rusted Key in Kyovashad, you might as well leave it where it sits because you won't be able to smuggle it out of Kyovashad.
