How to get rid of mushrooms in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Here's how to get rid of mushrooms and mushroom stumps in Disney Dreamlight Valley, including how to upgrade the watering can, mushroom spawn rates & more.
You may be wondering how to get rid of mushrooms in Disney Dreamlight Valley, especially if you’ve experienced the pesky clusters getting in the way of decorating your space within the valley.
There are three types of mushrooms in Disney Dreamlight Valley: one is a forage item you can use in some of the best recipes, and the other two are large mushroom stalks and mushroom stumps within the Glade of Trust biome.
Both types of mushrooms require tool upgrades to remove, achievable through specific companion questlines in the game.
Stick with us and we’ll tell you how to remove mushrooms and mushroom stumps in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to remove mushrooms in the Glade of Trust
The other troublesome fungi in the game are the mushroom stumps in the Glade of Trust and Frosted Heights biomes. These act as an early-game barrier and will cut off your access to the further reaches of the biomes.
To clear the mushroom stumps in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll need to first recruit Anna to the valley from the Frozen realm. Then, you’ll need to reach level two friendship with her and complete the ‘An Icy Invitation’ quest to receive a shovel upgrade.
The shovel upgrade (once crafted at a station) can be used to remove the tree stumps. To make the upgrade you’ll need the following materials:
- Softwood x10 – can be found on the ground near trees in the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Forest of Valor, and Glade of Trust. It may also appear as a rotating stock item at Kristoff's Stall
- Hardwood x4 - can be found on the ground near trees in the Sunlit Plateau, Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, and Frosted Heights. It may also appear as a rotating stock item at Kristoff's Stall
- Iron Ingots x6 - made at a crafting station from five Iron Ore and one Coal Ore

Where does Mushroom spawn in Disney Dreamlight?
If you’re looking for a good source of mushrooms for a particular dish, gift, or quest, upgrading your watering can and removing mushroom stalks is one of the best ways.
From personal experience, every small stalk you remove will usually yield one batch of mushrooms and every large stalk will give two batches.
You can also gather mushrooms from the ground in the Glade of Trust biome. There will usually be around ten spawns of mushrooms (depending on if you have all sections of the biome unlocked). Once picked, from my experience, mushrooms tend to have a 45-minute spawn rate until they fully respawn in the biome, so it's worth picking them at the beginning of your playtime and then completing a few quests before checking back.
Unfortunately, mushrooms cannot be purchased from any of Goofy’s Stalls, so it’s worthwhile getting into the habit of picking them every time you cross paths with a mushroom crop, especially if you haven’t received the watering can upgrade from Merlin yet.

How to upgrade the watering can in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Mushroom stalks grow mostly within the Peaceful Meadow biome; indeed you will most likely have seen them dotted around Merlin’s house, causing something of a barrier to get past.
These mushrooms can only be dissolved by using the watering can, but you must first get the permanent watering can upgrade from Merlin.
To do so you’ll need to get Merlin to friendship level ten and then complete the ‘A Dark Experiment’ quest.

How to complete ‘A Dark Experiment’
The ‘A Dark Experiment’ quest will require you to gather the following materials for the watering can upgrade:
- 20 Mushrooms – patches of mushrooms grow on the ground in the Glade of Trust biomes. Usually in the soil, near the waterways
- 5 Emeralds – Can be mined from ore in the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust biomes
- 3 Purified Night Shards – made at a crafting station by combining five Night Shards with one Dream Shard. Night Shards can be collected from sparkling digging spots and Dream Shards can be collected from giving critters their favourite foods, clearing Night Thorns, and digging sparkling spots
Once you have all the above materials, speak to Merlin to acquire the upgrade. Now, you should be able to remove the mushroom stalks by watering them with your can. The stalks will eventually return but can be removed again.
