Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2 explained, from hiring to levelling up
Pawns are critical to your Arisen's success in Dragon's Dogma 2, so learn how to hire new additions to your party and level up your own main pawn too.
One of the most integral features in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the Pawn system and the party you create during your journey – so I’m here to break down everything you need to know about Pawns in the game, from the commands you can issue, to how to level-up and hire them.
Hiring Pawns is essential if you’re going to make it through the vast open world, and having a team of different Vocations suited to your playstyle will help you succeed in any battle.
How to hire Pawns
Hiring Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is pretty simple: you just need to talk to them as you explore and request that they join your party, or search for them in Riftstones.
Most Pawns will just be wandering around as above, and may even call your attention to them as you journey across the world.
However, if you’re looking for specific types of Pawns, you can use Riftstones which will allow you to hire available Pawns provided you have the appropriate amount of RC to do so - which increases the further away you get from your current Arisen's level.
How to level up Pawns
When you acquire your primary Pawn, they will level up alongside you as you take on combat encounters, complete quests and forage for food.
However, the Pawns you hire from Riftstones will not level up, so as you progress, chopping and changing Pawns becomes pivotal when taking on new challenges.
Pawn Commands explained
Pawns can be commanded to perform several actions in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and they are listed below:
Pawn Command | Function |
“Go!”
|
Allows Pawns to act independently. In combat it allows them to spread out and attack. Outside of combat, it can be used to request guidance and assistance. |
“To me!”
|
Instructs Pawns to return to the Arisen and allows them to fight by the Arisen’s side during combat. |
“Wait!”
|
Pawns remain stationary until given a command and cease attacking. |
“Help!”
|
Pawns prioritize healing and support of the group. |
Each of these actions works in and out of combat. For example, when I found some rocks that could be broken, I used “Go!” in their direction for my Pawns to begin attacking the rocks, breaking them and revealing a hidden path.
Additionally, your Pawns will passively point out parts of the world for you to explore, including statues, landmarks, chests, quest markers, areas to forage materials and food and more.
That’s everything you need to know about Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2, from hiring them to levelling up and issuing their commands.
