Hype for Dune: Awakening is stronger than ever with the buzz around Dune: Part Two and the latest updates from developer, Funcom - making its trailers and details on gameplay getting us excited to play the game on its multiple platforms.

Although we've known about the open-world survival MMO since August 2022, anticipation around Dune: Awakening is finally kicking into high gear.

What platforms will Dune: Awakening be on?

Dune: Awakening is launching on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) - with the latter currently available to wishlist. Meanwhile, you can also sign up for the beta at the game's official website

While it may be disappointing for last-gen gamers that Dune: Awakening won't be on PS4 or Xbox One, I'd say it does make sense the game's only fit for current-gen hardware given its ambitious scope.

Gameplay details so far

We've finally gotten a better look at Dune: Awakening's gameplay, courtesy of the Survive Arrakis trailer (which you'll find in the next section) - honing in on the game's focus of rising "from survival to dominance on the most dangerous planet in the universe" by scavenging and gathering resources.

With crafted gear and even your base which you build from those resources, you'll take on and conquer the various threats the iconic Dune planet has in store for you throughout Awakening.

What's more though, as mentioned in our Dune: Awakening preview by my Editor (or Fremen-in-Chief), Lloyd Coombes, you'll even be able to "rise up the political ladder" as a member of one of the factions like Harkonnen, Atreides etc and "spend your time rescuing folks from the desert to recruit them to your cause, smuggling spice, or just enjoying being part of Arrakis".

Whether you're a diehard Dune fan or you've only recently got into the franchise due to the films, it seems like a fun mix of a sci-fi franchise blended with survival MMO gameplay.

Trailers for Dune: Awakening

Announcement Trailer

Dropped in August 2022 as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022, the Dune: Awakening's announcement trailer is still worth a re-watch.

With the recital of Paul Atreides' 'fear is the mind-killer' speech, building up to a confrontation with a sandworm, this first trailer sets the bar for the cinematic gameplay Awakening is going for.

Pre-Alpha Teaser Trailer

Released by Funcom four months after the announcement, the pre-alpha teaser arrived to show off a bit more of the 'epic scale' of this new open world inspired by the films and Frank Herbert's novel.

Featuring a look at the ornithopters and some of the civilisations, the trailer ends with a tease of a big epic desert battle to get the thrills going.

Survive Arrakis Trailer

At the end of the 25-minute Dune: Awakening Direct – Episode 1, Funcom treated us to the first major look at its gameplay in the Survive Arrakis trailer.

This particular trailer's given us the best look at the survival MMO experience of Dune: Awakening so far, making us more eager than ever for extra detail in the next Direct episodes.
